Bridal and Event Styling in Brighton, Kohort Studio Richmond
Polished, photograph-ready bridal and event hair for Brighton brides, bayside wedding parties and Spring Racing attendees, led by Sheridan May Hair.
Brighton's Dedicated Bridal and Event Styling Specialists
Brighton bridal has a particular signature. A bayside wedding in Brighton often runs through the Brighton Beach bathing boxes for morning photos, a Middle Brighton ceremony at St Andrew's or a private garden along Were Street, and a reception at Quat Quatta in Ripponlea, Leonda by the Yarra, Luminare in South Melbourne, or a private dining room at the Brighton Savoy. The brief skews classic, polished, bayside-elegant rather than editorial-cool, and the photography has to hold up against bright foreshore light in the morning and warm reception lighting at night.
Kohort Studio sits at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond. From Brighton it is a twenty to thirty minute run across Punt Road or via Nepean Highway and Toorak Road depending on traffic. Our bridal and event styling practice is led by Sheridan May Hair, a Melbourne bridal specialist with a long portfolio across classic and editorial work. Grace handles bridesmaids and accessible bridal bookings. Zoe brings polished classic styling. Taylah covers editorial briefs, and Sheree handles short-hair brides and mother-of-the-bride work.
The Brighton bridal calendar tracks the Melbourne wedding peaks: October and November (Spring Racing plus wedding season), February and March (autumn bayside weddings, often the calmest weather of the year), May and June (winter indoor receptions at Leonda, the Savoy and the RACV City Club). Firbank Grammar, Brighton Grammar, Haileybury and Methodist Ladies' formal cycles drive a strong October-November booking wave as well. Saturday bridal in peak season typically closes six to nine months out.
Spring Racing is its own wave. Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day all generate a Flemington styling peak. Caulfield Guineas in October, Cox Plate at Moonee Valley and the Mornington races in summer round it out. For Cup Week, lock in by August.
What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Bridal and Event Styling Near Brighton
The first answer is Sheridan. Sheridan May Hair is a classic and editorial bridal specialist with a long Melbourne wedding portfolio. Chignons, low buns with pearl detail, soft half-ups, veiled looks, editorial waves and slick modern ponytails. For Brighton brides at Quat Quatta or Leonda, classic is usually the brief, and it is Sheridan's strongest territory.
The second answer is the trial. A Kohort bridal trial runs ninety minutes with clean, dry hair, your veil or headpiece, and a curated set of references. We work through two or three concepts, land on the direction, adjust in the chair, and photograph every angle for the day-of reference. You leave with a direction agreed, product notes for the week leading in, and a morning timeline.
The third answer is bayside-specific finishing. Brighton weddings often involve beach or foreshore photography, which means humidity, wind and salt air on the set. Our bridal finish uses layered product (Kevin Murphy Session Spray Flex, Kérastase Laque Couture, Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and Kérastase Elixir Ultime shine spray) specifically built to survive bayside conditions from the morning walk to the evening reception.
The fourth answer is family coordination. Bayside weddings often have a large bridal party, extended family, three generations present and a packed morning schedule. Sheridan and the Kohort team travel to Brighton, whether you are prepping at a Were Street family home, the Brighton Savoy, the Brighton International or at the venue itself, and run a mapped-backwards timeline so everyone lands on time.
The fifth answer is pre-wedding colour. Most bridal clients are colour clients. Balayage, gloss, invisible grey coverage, soft highlights, keratin smoothing and bond-building treatments get sequenced from four months out through to two weeks before the wedding. Taylah, Zoe, Billie and Sheree handle the colour. For bayside clients who are in the water or on the foreshore often, the colour plan includes extra bond support.
The sixth answer is the coordination with makeup and photographer. For Brighton brides, Sheridan and the team regularly work alongside the photographer and makeup artist across the morning. If you have a preferred makeup artist, we will coordinate. If you do not, we can recommend trusted artists we have worked with on bayside weddings.
Bridal and Event Styling Process and What to Expect
Consultation first. Six to nine months out from the wedding, twenty minutes in salon or via email. We discuss venue, date, dress silhouette, headpiece or veil, bridesmaid palette, mother-of-the-bride preferences, and family logistics. Rough direction agreed before trial booking.
Trial next. Three to four months out from the wedding, ninety minutes with your stylist. Clean, dry, day-two hair. Accessories. Curated references. Two or three concepts, direction finalised, photos taken.
Pre-wedding colour and maintenance. The colourist maps the calendar. Balayage or full-head three to four months out. Gloss or toner six weeks out. Keratin smoothing four to six weeks out. Final trim one to two weeks out. No major colour changes inside two weeks.
Wedding day styling. Sheridan and the team travel to your Brighton location and style bride, bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride, flower girls and family in a coordinated sequence. Timeline mapped backwards from the ceremony with a thirty-minute photography buffer.
Touch-up kit. Bobby pins, travel hairspray, shine spray, comb. Most touch-ups between ceremony and reception are a single pin reset.
