Hair Treatments at Kohort Studio, Curated Rituals for Stronger, Shinier Hair, Richmond Melbourne

A curated menu of in-salon rituals designed to restore integrity, elevate shine, and genuinely upgrade your hair.

What Is a Hair Treatment?

A hair treatment is an in-salon service, usually an add-on to a colour or cut, that delivers deeper repair, hydration, shine, protection or scalp work than a standard shampoo and conditioner can. At Kohort our hair treatment menu is a curated collection of professional rituals from the brands we trust most, including Olaplex, K18, Kérastase, L'Oréal Professionnel, Davines and our own exclusive Kohort Scalp Ritual. Each treatment exists for a specific job, and each is prescribed based on what your hair actually needs rather than what is on sale.

Treatments sit in four broad categories on our menu. Moisture and shine, for hair that looks dull, feels thirsty or needs a quick glossy lift. Bonding, for internal bond repair on hair that has been coloured, lightened, heat-styled or chemically compromised. Purifying, for detoxing minerals, metals and product build-up that interferes with colour, shine and scalp health. Smoothing, for long-term frizz reduction, humidity resistance and polished finish. There is also our Signature Ritual, the Kohort Scalp Ritual, a restorative head massage treatment unique to our salon.

Because every treatment is an add-on, most clients book a treatment alongside a colour or cut service. If you want to come in purely for a treatment, we ask that you also book a blow wave so your hair is washed, treated, and styled out properly. Standalone treatment bookings deliver much more value when the finish is part of the appointment rather than sending you home with wet hair.

Treatments are prescribed, not assumed. At consultation, your stylist looks at your hair in natural light, checks porosity, feels for internal strength, inspects the scalp, and asks what you have noticed changing over the past few months. From that conversation a treatment pathway is recommended. Sometimes that is a single add-on. Sometimes it is a layered protocol across multiple services. Sometimes it is a weekly home-care reset before any in-salon work is booked.

This page is the hub for our full treatment menu. For a deeper breakdown of individual treatments, we also have dedicated pages for Olaplex, K18, Kérastase Fusio Dose, and the Kohort Scalp Ritual.

How KOHORT Approaches Hair Treatments

Treatment culture at Kohort is built around prescribing based on what the hair needs, not up-selling based on what is in stock. Our stylists trained across different continents and different brands, which means the treatment menu we stock is genuinely the product we reach for first in our own kits. If you see it on our shelf, we use it ourselves.

Our moisture and shine tier is led by the Kérastase Fusio Dose Ritual at $50, a bespoke alchemy of concentrated actives blended at the chair to address your specific needs. Fusio Dose is our go-to for a photo-ready shine finish, for mid-cycle refresh between colour services, or for anyone whose hair looks dull, tired or under-hydrated. The finish lasts up to eight washes and the visible gloss difference is immediate. Davines Liquid Luster at $25 is the lighter gloss option, a lamellar-technology smoothing treatment that boosts softness, shine and silkiness without weighing hair down. We often apply it before a blow wave for an ultra-reflective finish.

Our bonding tier is led by K18 Molecular Repair from $50 and Olaplex Bonding Treatment from $50. These two products rebuild internal hair bonds compromised by colour, heat and chemical services, and they are the most important add-ons for blondes, bleached hair, and anyone with significant colour history. K18 works through biomimetic peptide technology that travels into the cortex and reconnects broken keratin chains. Olaplex uses a different bond-rebuilding chemistry that targets disulphide bonds within the cuticle. Many stylists and clients use both. We often layer them into the same service for maximum effect. Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding from $50 is the curl-specific version of Olaplex bonding, designed to strengthen and redefine natural texture while preserving curl pattern.

Our purifying tier handles metal, mineral and build-up detox. L'Oréal Metal Detox from $45 is a pre-colour treatment that neutralises metal particles inside the hair fibre, protecting against uneven lift, unwanted colour shift and breakage. We use it before almost every balayage or lift service on hair with any colour history. Olaplex Chelating Treatment from $50 is the heavier detox option for clients with significant build-up, swimmers, anyone on bore water, or any hair that feels coated, dull or sluggish even after shampooing. A chelating treatment can completely reset the canvas before a colour service.

Our smoothing tier is anchored by the Bhave Keratin Smoothing service from $250, covered in detail on our dedicated keratin smoothing page. Nanoplasty with Elodie, a formaldehyde-free smoothing option, has its own dedicated page as well.

Our signature Kohort Scalp Ritual from $80 is exclusive to our salon and stands apart from the other treatments. This is a deeply restorative head massage ritual combining warm aromatic oils, a targeted scalp treatment, and slow intentional massage techniques designed to melt tension, rebalance the scalp and calm the nervous system. It is an experience rather than a standard product application, and it has become one of our most rebooked services.

Every stylist at Kohort is trained across the full treatment menu. Your stylist prescribes based on what your hair needs on the day, and treatments can be added at consultation or as a recommendation partway through your service if something unexpected shows up.

Who Performs Hair Treatments at KOHORT

All stylists at Kohort offer our full treatment menu as add-ons to their colour and cut services. Each stylist has their own prescribing style and brand preferences, and all of them will talk you through the options before applying anything.

Sheree, Precision Stylist and Treatment Prescribing

With over twenty years of industry experience, Sheree's treatment prescribing skews toward Olaplex bonding, K18 and Fusio Dose for her colour and precision-cut clients. If your hair has a long colour history, Sheree will often layer multiple treatments across a single appointment to genuinely move the dial on condition. Book with Sheree.

Zoe, Blonde-Focused Treatment Work

Zoe's book is heavily blonde-focused, which means she is prescribing K18 and Olaplex Bonding most days of the week. For her clients, bond support during lift is non-negotiable. She will also add a Fusio Dose or Metal Detox where the hair history warrants it. Book with Zoe.

Billie, Creative Colour and Bond Repair

Thirty years of colour experience makes Billie a treatment prescriber who will happily layer Metal Detox, Olaplex Chelating and Olaplex Bonding across a single appointment on previously box-dyed or mineral-loaded hair. Her creative colour work relies on bond protection throughout. Currently welcoming existing clients only. Book with Billie.

Taylah, High-Impact Colour and K18

Taylah's signature is colour work that holds together across months, which means K18 molecular repair and Olaplex Bonding are regular features on her client appointments. She also prescribes Kohort Scalp Ritual for clients showing any scalp sensitivity. Book with Taylah.

Sheridan, Lived-In Colour and Gentle Treatments

Sheridan's clients often come for soft natural colour work that demands minimal bond damage in the first place, but she still routinely prescribes Fusio Dose, Davines Liquid Luster and Olaplex Bonding to keep hair in optimum condition. Book with Sheridan.

Grace, Foundation Treatments and Keratin Smoothing

Grace trained at Biba and Billie Jean Hair and brings a strong treatment knowledge base to every appointment. She is also Kohort's lead keratin smoothing specialist. Her pricing on foundation services makes her a great first booking if you want to explore the treatment menu alongside a cut or colour. Book with Grace.

Elodie, Nanoplasty and Glass-Hair Finishing

Elodie specialises in formaldehyde-free smoothing and glass-hair finishing. Her treatment menu skews toward amino-acid chemistry, bond repair and shine work. Book through Instagram DM at glass_hair_elodie.

Hair Treatment Process, What to Expect

1. Consultation

Your stylist inspects your hair dry, asks about colour history, home routine and any changes you have noticed. A treatment pathway is recommended based on what your hair actually needs.

2. Preparation

Hair is shampooed, often with a clarifying shampoo if a purifying treatment is being applied. Sometimes multiple shampoos are used to strip build-up.

3. Treatment Application

The prescribed treatment is applied. For moisture and shine treatments like Fusio Dose, concentrated actives are blended at the chair. For bonding treatments like K18 or Olaplex, the formula is distributed through the hair and allowed to penetrate. For the Kohort Scalp Ritual, warm aromatic oils are applied and massage work begins.

4. Processing

Processing time varies by treatment. K18 needs only four minutes once applied. Olaplex Bonding processes for ten minutes. Fusio Dose works in minutes. Scalp Ritual takes longer because the massage is a core part of the service.

5. Rinse, Condition, Style

Hair is rinsed, conditioned, and styled as part of the broader appointment. Treatments layered into a colour or cut service are built into the timing of the appointment rather than extending it significantly.

6. Home Care Brief

Your stylist walks you through home care products and routines to extend the treatment. Many of our retail products are the take-home versions of the in-salon treatment, and they meaningfully extend the result.

Aftercare for Hair Treatments

Aftercare depends on the specific treatment, but a handful of universal rules apply across the menu.

Use sulphate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo and conditioner at home. We stock Kérastase, Davines, Olaplex and K18 home-care ranges on our retail shelf, and they are the products our stylists use themselves. Sulphates strip colour, strip bonds and strip smoothing treatments faster than anything else in the bathroom cupboard.

Wash less. Three times a week for most guests is ideal. Every additional wash gradually releases any in-salon treatment.

Heat protect before any hot tool. Every time. No exceptions.

Refresh treatments between appointments. A Fusio Dose or Liquid Luster mid-cycle refresh at around the six to eight week mark extends a colour service, keeps shine high and keeps condition on track.

For bonding treatments specifically, follow your stylist's home-use guidance for the matching retail product. K18 leave-in molecular repair mist is the single most-requested take-home. Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector used weekly at home extends the in-salon bonding effect. Kérastase Blond Absolu, Chronologiste or Nutritive ranges match different hair needs and can be prescribed by your stylist.

For the Kohort Scalp Ritual, the aftercare is largely sensory. Drink water. Avoid harsh scalp treatments at home for a week. Let the calming effect settle. Rebooking every four to six weeks is common among clients who notice the difference in their stress levels as much as their scalp.

Who Hair Treatments at KOHORT Are Ideal For

Hair treatments at Kohort are ideal for anyone booking colour work, anyone with bleached or lightened hair, anyone with long-term chemical or heat damage, anyone with scalp tension, stress or build-up, and anyone who wants their hair to genuinely improve rather than just look good on the day.

Colour clients are our biggest treatment demographic. Bond support during and after any lift service is the single most impactful thing you can do for long-term hair integrity. Olaplex Bonding, K18 Molecular Repair and L'Oréal Metal Detox are regular features of our colour appointments.

Fine hair benefits significantly from Fusio Dose and Davines Liquid Luster for lightweight shine without weighing the hair down. Coarse hair benefits from bonding and smoothing treatments that improve manageability. Curly hair benefits from Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding and scalp rituals that support healthy growth. Long hair benefits from layered treatments across a single service. Short precision cuts benefit from Fusio Dose for finish quality.

Clients under sustained stress, those with scalp tension or sensitivity, and those who simply want a moment of calm in their appointment all respond strongly to the Kohort Scalp Ritual.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Treatments at KOHORT

What is the difference between Olaplex and K18?

Both are bonding treatments but they use different chemistry. Olaplex rebuilds disulphide bonds in the cuticle. K18 uses a biomimetic peptide to reconnect broken keratin chains in the cortex. Many stylists layer both in the same service. Your stylist will recommend based on your hair.

Do I really need a treatment every time I colour?

Not every time, but bond support during any lightening service is strongly recommended. For toner and gloss refresh appointments, a treatment is optional. For bleach, balayage, foils or corrective colour, we consider it essential.

Can I just book a treatment without a colour or cut?

Yes, but please add a blow wave so your hair is washed, treated and styled properly. Standalone treatments without finishing styling do not deliver full value.

How long does a Kérastase Fusio Dose last?

The shine and condition boost lasts up to eight washes. Most clients book Fusio Dose every six to eight weeks as a refresh.

What is the Kohort Scalp Ritual?

An exclusive seventy to ninety minute scalp massage ritual using warm aromatic oils and targeted scalp treatment products. From $80. It is equal parts hair treatment and nervous system reset.

Which treatment is best for bleached hair?

K18 Molecular Repair is the single most important treatment for bleached hair. Olaplex Bonding is a strong complement. Most blondes layer both.

Which treatment is best for dull or thirsty hair?

Kérastase Fusio Dose Ritual for a full moisture and shine reset, or Davines Liquid Luster for a lighter gloss refresh.

Which treatment is best before a colour service?

L'Oréal Metal Detox or Olaplex Chelating Treatment, depending on how much build-up the hair is carrying. Your colourist will prescribe at consultation.

How much do treatments cost?

Fusio Dose $50. Liquid Luster $25. K18, Olaplex Bonding, Olaplex Chelating, Olaplex Bond Shaper each from $50. Metal Detox from $45. Bhave Keratin from $250. Kohort Scalp Ritual from $80.

Can I combine treatments in one appointment?

Yes. Many clients do. Metal Detox pre-colour, K18 or Olaplex through the lift, Fusio Dose as a finish. Your stylist can build a layered treatment plan at consultation.

Do treatments damage hair over time?

No. These are professional-grade restorative products. Used correctly, they improve hair condition over time rather than compromising it.

How often should I book a treatment?

Every six to eight weeks is ideal for most clients, often aligned with colour refresh appointments. Scalp Ritual rebookers tend to book every four to six weeks.

Where is Kohort and how do I get there?

234 Bridge Road, Richmond VIC 3121. Burnley and East Richmond stations are eight to ten minutes walk. Tram 48 and 75 run along Bridge Road directly past the door.

Is there parking near the salon?

Yes. Two-hour metered street parking on Bridge Road and free longer parking on residential side streets within a block or two.
