Bridal Event Styling

Bridal, wedding, racing carnival and formal styling designed to hold all day and photograph beautifully from every angle.

What Is Bridal and Event Styling?

Bridal and event styling covers weddings, engagements, formals, racing carnivals, milestone birthdays, black tie galas and any high stakes day where the hair needs to hold from morning until past midnight and photograph in every light. It is not the same service as a regular blow dry. The brief is longer, the set is different, the product layering is heavier and the trial is often part of the process.

At Kohort, bridal and event styling covers the full spectrum. Traditional bridal, soft romantic half ups, sleek modern low buns, voluminous old Hollywood waves, editorial Vogue style piecey finishes, racing carnival blow dries with fascinator placement, formal upstyles for Xavier, MLC, Scotch, Mercy and Balwyn High seasons, and milestone events. Every stylist takes bridal bookings, but we match you with the right specialist.

A proper event service works from the inside out. The prep is planned days ahead. Hair is washed the day before, never that morning, because day one hair is too slippery to hold a set. On the day, the stylist sections with purpose, heat sets, pins with hidden bobby pins, pads discreetly if volume is needed, and finishes with a layered product wall. A good event style survives a ceremony, a long photography session, a windy outdoor moment, a first dance and a late night.

Spring Racing Carnival, Cup week at Flemington, Caulfield Guineas, Cox Plate at Moonee Valley and Oaks Day bring our busiest stretch of the year. Clients from Toorak, South Yarra, Hawthorn, Kew and Camberwell book months ahead for trackside styling that sits cleanly under a fascinator. Wedding bookings span spring and autumn, with Como House, Leonda by the Yarra, Quat Quatta, Studley Park Boathouse and the Abbotsford Convent driving steady demand.

How KOHORT Approaches Bridal and Event Styling

At Kohort, bridal and event styling is treated as a plan, not a session. The difference shows in the result.

Every bridal booking starts with a trial. For weddings, the trial is non negotiable. It is the session where your stylist tests the style on your actual hair, against your veil or headpiece, and decides what needs to change. Most guests leave with one or two tweaks identified. The trial also locks in time on the day when you are building a timeline around photographer, car, florist and bridal party.

Products used in event styling sit at the heavier, structured end. Kevin Murphy Session Spray Flex for setting with hold that still moves. Kérastase Laque Couture for a final lock. Davines Hair Chalk for festival or editorial colour. For bridal, Kérastase Elixir Ultime shine spray adds photographic glow without greasing down. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray gives natural looking grip.

Pinning and structure are where technique shows. A bridal updo is not ten bobby pins thrown in. It is three pin types at different depths, holding different weight zones. Padding when needed is discreet, matched to hair colour, and invisible from every angle, including the back of the head where the photographer lands.

The co-working model suits event work. Each stylist controls their own schedule, so a bridal party of four or five can block book a morning, and each stylist owns their guest from start to finish. No handoffs.

Trackside styling has its own rhythm. The fascinator needs to sit properly, so the style is built around its placement. Low buns, curled ponytails, soft waves with brooch placement, and finger wave inspired finishes all sit well under Spring Racing headwear. Bring your fascinator to the trial.

Finishing matters. Every event booking ends with a product lock, a photography check in daylight, and a touch up kit with the exact pins and spray used.

Bridal and Event Styling Process

1. Enquiry and Consultation

Email salon@kohort.com.au with your date, the event, the venue, and two or three reference photos. Your stylist will reply with a quote, a trial recommendation, and a timeline.

2. Trial

For weddings, a trial is strongly recommended. Book six to eight weeks before the event. The trial runs through the style on your actual hair, with your veil or headpiece if possible, and photos are taken from every angle to review together.

3. Day Of Prep

Arrive with hair that was washed the day before, not the morning of. Your stylist will confirm at the trial. Day two hair holds a set far better than freshly washed hair.

4. Styling

Depending on the brief, this is one and a half to three hours. Sectioning, heat setting, pinning, padding if needed, and layered product.

5. Final Finish and Photos

The last ten minutes are finishing touches, lock spray, photography check in natural light, and a take home touch up kit with the exact pins and spray your stylist used.

Bridal and Event Styling Pricing at KOHORT

Bridal and event styling pricing at Kohort varies by stylist, length, density, and the complexity of the style. As a guide, a bridal trial typically sits from $150 to $220. Bridal on the day styling is typically from $220 to $380. Bridesmaid styling is typically $150 to $220 per head. Mother of the bride and mother of the groom styling is typically $130 to $180. Event blow dries with tong or wave work for racing carnival and formals are typically $150 to $200.

Additional fees may apply for early starts before 8am, travel to on location bookings, and extensions styling where significant extra time is needed. Extensions install or re tape service is booked separately if required.

Group bridal bookings of three or more heads can often be booked to block two stylists across a morning, and we recommend emailing salon@kohort.com.au at least three months before the wedding date to confirm availability. Spring Racing Carnival week (first week of November), Melbourne Cup week, and formal season across October and November book out first.

Every stylist is an independent business and sets their own pricing, so confirmed quotes come from your stylist at enquiry.

Aftercare, Making Your Event Style Last

A properly built event style should hold from morning to past midnight without retouching.

Arrive with clean, dry, day two hair, free of heavy oils or leave in conditioners. Day one is too slippery, day three too greasy.

Carry the touch up kit your stylist packs you. Three bobby pins, a small travel spray, a comb. Most event touch ups are a single pin reset, not a restyle.

If the style drops late in the event, you have permission. A loose undone style after six hours of dancing is beautiful. The photographer will have captured the set in the first hour.

Brief your bridal party on aftercare. Two bridesmaids with two different hairsprays over a professional set can ruin the finish.

Pack a silk scarf for the car if you are changing locations. Wind through an open window undoes even the best set.

Drink water. Champagne and warm rooms dehydrate hair as much as skin. A hydrated shaft holds style longer.

A deep conditioning treatment a week after the event, such as Kérastase Fusio Dose or K18 Molecular Repair, resets the hair after heavy product use.

Who Bridal and Event Styling at KOHORT Is Ideal For

Bridal and event styling at Kohort is ideal for guests who want a professional, considered finish that photographs beautifully and holds through a long day. Brides, bridesmaids, mothers of the bride, engagement party guests, Spring Racing attendees, formal students, black tie gala guests, and milestone birthday celebrants all book regularly.

It suits guests with specific venue briefs. Como House, Leonda by the Yarra, Studley Park Boathouse, Quat Quatta, the Abbotsford Convent, Tim's Place, Cargo Hall, Trofeo Estate and inner Melbourne reception venues all have their own lighting, photography context and mood. Your stylist has likely styled at each of these venues before and will factor in the specific photography and lighting environment.

It suits guests with tricky hair that needs planning. Fine hair that cannot hold volume, thick hair that cannot hold a curl, fringe cuts that need setting, grey hair that reflects differently under photography lights, and extensions that need specific handling. All benefit from the trial and the planning.

It may not be right for you if you want a last minute same day upstyle with no consultation. For high stakes events, we strongly prefer a trial or at minimum a consultation call beforehand. If it is a last minute request, we will do our best, but the finish is more reliable with planning.

Bridal and Event Styling for Clients Across Inner Melbourne

Our bridal book pulls from every corner of inner Melbourne. From Toorak and South Yarra, Kohort sees significant Spring Racing Carnival bookings, with clients crossing Punt Road in early November for trackside styling before Derby Day, Melbourne Cup, Oaks Day and Stakes Day at Flemington. Caulfield Guineas in October and Cox Plate at Moonee Valley draw the same demographic. Como House and Leonda by the Yarra weddings are a steady thread across spring and autumn.

From Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew, Camberwell and Balwyn, we see a classic Boroondara bridal brief. Soft waves, romantic half ups, polished low buns. School formals from Scotch, Xavier, MLC, Genazzano and Balwyn High drive a busy October and November pipeline. Kooyong Classic tennis and Australian Open corporate boxes bring January bookings.

From Richmond, Cremorne, Burnley and Abbotsford, the brief leans editorial and modern. Cremorne tech professionals book engagement styling. Abbotsford Convent weddings call for styling that suits the creative aesthetic. Richmond locals book polished modern finishes for AFL Grand Final and Cup corporate marquees.

From Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Collingwood, Carlton, Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Northcote, Fairfield and Alphington, we see fashion forward bridal work. Gertrude Street gallery openings, Collingwood Yards launches, Fitzroy North wedding venues, and creative industry engagement parties. Briefs tend less traditional, more editorial.

East Melbourne clients book for Parliament functions, Collins Street galas, Xavier and Mercy school events, and MCG corporate boxes. St Kilda clients mix beach ready finishes with black tie for Palais Theatre and foreshore weddings. Melbourne CBD apartment belt clients book before weddings at Cargo Hall and Luminare.

Kohort at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond is fifteen minutes or less by car, tram or train from most of inner Melbourne.
