What Is an Olaplex Treatment?
Olaplex is a professional in-salon treatment system that rebuilds the internal bond structure of your hair. At its core, Olaplex uses a patented chemistry called bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, which works by reconnecting the disulphide bonds that break during colour services, lightening, heat styling and chemical processing. When those bonds break, hair becomes weaker, loses elasticity, splits, tangles, and stops holding colour properly. Olaplex rebuilds them.
At Kohort our Olaplex menu includes three in-salon treatments. Olaplex Bonding Treatment from $50, a restorative ritual used during or after colour, lift or chemical services. Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding from $50, a curl-specific version designed to strengthen and redefine natural texture while preserving curl pattern. Olaplex Chelating Treatment from $50, a purifying detox service that lifts metals, minerals and environmental impurities out of the hair so colour lifts cleanly and shine returns.
Olaplex is not a conditioner. It is a structural treatment that works inside the hair rather than coating the surface. Conditioners hydrate the cuticle. Olaplex rebuilds the bonds beneath it. That distinction is why you can use Olaplex in conjunction with any conditioner, mask or finishing product without one blocking the other.
The brand has become a category-defining name in professional haircare for a reason. Olaplex is the single most important bond-building add-on for blondes, for anyone who lightens regularly, for clients recovering from colour damage, and for hair that has been put through chemical services. Paired with good home care, Olaplex can meaningfully reverse the damage of years of colour history.
Olaplex sits alongside K18 Molecular Repair in our bonding tier, and the two treatments use different chemistry to achieve overlapping goals. Some stylists and clients prefer one over the other. Many layer both in the same service. Your stylist will recommend based on your hair.
This page covers our Olaplex Bonding and Olaplex Chelating services specifically. For a broader view of our treatment menu, see our hair treatment hub page. For K18 specifically, see our K18 treatment page.
How KOHORT Approaches Olaplex Treatments
Olaplex at Kohort is treated as a working tool rather than a sales item. Our stylists use Olaplex every day, in almost every colour service, because the integrity of the hair after a lift is a direct function of whether bond support was built into the appointment. Cutting corners on bonding is one of the most common reasons clients end up with brittle, breaking ends six months after a balayage.
Olaplex Bonding at Kohort is typically applied during a colour or lift service rather than as a standalone treatment. The Olaplex actives can be added directly to the lightener, toner or colour formula, which means bond rebuilding is happening at the same moment the hair is being processed. Your stylist then often follows up with an Olaplex No 2 bonding step after the colour is rinsed, locking in the repair before conditioning. For hair with significant damage or colour history, a third in-salon bonding treatment can be layered in before finishing.
Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding is the curl-focused version of this chemistry. Designed specifically for natural texture, it strengthens and redefines curl pattern while rebuilding internal bonds. Clients with curly, coily or wavy hair who are also colouring or heat-styling often find that regular Olaplex Curl Rebuilding appointments transform how their curl behaves day to day. Bounce comes back. Definition sharpens. Frizz calms. Shape memory improves.
Olaplex Chelating Treatment is a purifying service. Its job is to lift metals, minerals, chlorine, hard water residue and environmental build-up out of the hair fibre so that colour can lift cleanly and shine can return. Chelating is particularly recommended for anyone on bore water, regular swimmers, clients with mineral-heavy tap water, and anyone whose hair has become dull, coated or resistant to colour. A chelating treatment often produces a visible improvement in clarity, softness and shine in a single appointment, and it resets the canvas before major colour work.
Our stylists prescribe Olaplex based on what the hair shows. At consultation we check porosity, test elasticity by gentle stretch, look for visible signs of damage, and ask about home routine. From that conversation a specific Olaplex protocol is recommended. Sometimes that is a single add-on. Sometimes it is a full bonding protocol across the service. Sometimes it is a chelating reset before colour is even booked.
We stock the Olaplex home-care range on our retail shelf, including Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector, Olaplex No 4 and 5 shampoo and conditioner, Olaplex No 7 bonding oil, and Olaplex No 8 intense moisture mask. These products are the home-care counterparts of the in-salon services and meaningfully extend the effect. Clients who use Olaplex No 3 weekly at home typically see noticeably improved condition within four to six weeks.

Olaplex Treatment Process, What to Expect
1. Consultation
Your stylist looks at your hair dry, checks porosity and elasticity, asks about home routine and chemical history, and recommends a specific Olaplex protocol.
2. Preparation
For chelating treatments, hair is first shampooed to strip surface residue. For bonding treatments layered into colour work, Olaplex is usually added to the colour formula directly.
3. Application
Olaplex No 1 is applied first for in-salon bonding, often mixed with the lightener or colour. Olaplex No 2 follows after the colour is rinsed. Olaplex Chelating is applied as a standalone treatment when a full detox is needed. Olaplex Bond Shaper is applied for curl-specific rebuilding.
4. Processing
Processing time varies by treatment. Olaplex No 1 works while the colour develops. Olaplex No 2 processes for ten minutes. Chelating treatments process for five to ten minutes.
5. Rinse, Condition, Finish
Hair is rinsed, conditioned, and styled as part of the appointment. A Kérastase Fusio Dose or Davines Liquid Luster may be applied at the end for additional shine.
6. Home Care Brief
Your stylist walks you through the Olaplex home-care products that match your in-salon protocol. Olaplex No 3 weekly is the most common take-home recommendation.
Olaplex Treatment Pricing at KOHORT
Olaplex treatments at Kohort are priced transparently and consistently across stylists.
- Olaplex Bonding Treatment: from $50
- Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding: from $50
- Olaplex Chelating Treatment: from $50
Most Olaplex services are booked as add-ons to a colour or cut appointment. For clients booking Olaplex as a primary reason for the visit, please also add a blow wave so your hair is washed, treated and styled properly.
For clients with significant damage or complex colour history, we often recommend a multi-stage Olaplex protocol layered across a single service, combining No 1 during colour, No 2 after, and optionally a chelating reset pre-colour. Multi-stage protocols may be quoted higher than the baseline $50 add-on. Your stylist will confirm pricing at consultation.
Aftercare for Olaplex Treatments
Aftercare after an Olaplex service is about extending the bond-rebuilding work with a compatible home routine.
Use a sulphate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo and conditioner at home. Olaplex No 4 and No 5 are designed for this exact purpose and extend the in-salon work directly. Kérastase Blond Absolu and Davines Love are also strong sulphate-free options.
Use Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector weekly at home. Apply to damp hair, leave for at least ten minutes, then wash out. This is the single most effective home-care step for extending in-salon bond work.
For regular colour clients and blondes, Olaplex No 7 bonding oil or Olaplex No 8 intense moisture mask round out the routine. Your stylist will recommend the right products for your hair.
Wash less. Three times a week is ideal for most guests. Every additional wash gradually releases any in-salon treatment and shortens the benefit period.
Heat protect before any hot tool. Olaplex-treated hair is stronger, but it still needs protection from direct heat.
Rebook an in-salon Olaplex treatment every six to eight weeks, usually aligned with your colour refresh. For clients with significant damage, weekly home-use Olaplex No 3 plus a stronger in-salon protocol every four weeks is a standard recovery plan.
For chelating clients, the aftercare focus is protecting the clean canvas. Filter tap water if possible, rinse after swimming, and book another chelating service every three to six months depending on your water quality.
Who Olaplex Treatments Are Ideal For
Olaplex treatments at Kohort are ideal for anyone who colours their hair, anyone who lightens, anyone with a colour history they want to recover from, anyone with curly or coily hair that feels fragile, anyone on hard or bore water, regular swimmers, and anyone whose hair has simply stopped behaving the way it used to.
Blondes are the single biggest Olaplex demographic for obvious reasons. Lift is the most structurally demanding service hair can undergo, and bond support is the difference between resilient long-term colour and hair that breaks at the ends three months later.
Curly-hair clients benefit significantly from Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding. It restores curl shape memory and definition while strengthening internal bonds.
Chelating is ideal for swimmers, for anyone on bore water or mineral-heavy tap water, for clients preparing for a major colour service, and for anyone whose hair has become dull, coated or resistant to colour.
Olaplex may not be the primary recommendation for hair with no colour history, no damage and minimal heat exposure. In those cases, moisture and shine treatments like Kérastase Fusio Dose or Davines Liquid Luster may be more relevant. Your stylist will prescribe based on what the hair actually needs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Olaplex Treatments at KOHORT
What is the difference between Olaplex Bonding and Olaplex Chelating?
Bonding rebuilds the internal disulphide bonds of your hair, restoring strength and elasticity. Chelating is a purifying detox that lifts metals, minerals and build-up out of the hair fibre. They serve different jobs and are often used together.
How does Olaplex compare to K18?
Both are bonding treatments with different chemistry. Olaplex targets disulphide bonds. K18 uses a biomimetic peptide to reconnect broken keratin chains. Many stylists and clients use both, sometimes layered in the same service.
Do I need Olaplex if I already use a good conditioner at home?
Yes. Olaplex is not a conditioner. It rebuilds bonds inside the hair rather than coating the cuticle. A conditioner hydrates. Olaplex strengthens structurally.
How much does an Olaplex treatment cost?
From $50 for Bonding, Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding, or Chelating Treatment. Multi-stage protocols may be quoted higher at consultation.
How often should I book Olaplex?
Every six to eight weeks is ideal, typically aligned with your colour refresh. For heavy damage recovery, more frequent protocols may be recommended.
Can I book Olaplex without a colour service?
Yes, but please add a blow wave so your hair is washed, treated and styled properly.
Is Olaplex safe for curly or coily hair?
Yes. Olaplex Bond Shaper Curl Rebuilding is specifically formulated for natural texture and is one of the strongest treatments for curly hair at the salon.
Do I need chelating before every colour service?
Not necessarily. Chelating is recommended for swimmers, bore water users, anyone with mineral-heavy tap water, and anyone whose hair has become dull or resistant to colour.
Can Olaplex repair breakage?
Olaplex rebuilds internal bonds, which reduces future breakage and improves hair integrity. It cannot reattach hair that has already broken off, but it significantly reduces new breakage when used consistently.
What Olaplex products should I use at home?
Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector weekly is the most universal recommendation. Olaplex No 4 and 5 shampoo and conditioner extend the in-salon work. Your stylist will match products to your hair.
Which stylist should I book for Olaplex?
All of our stylists integrate Olaplex routinely. For complex colour history or chelating, Billie or Zoe are strong picks. For curl-focused work, Olaplex Bond Shaper is available with any stylist.
Can I combine Olaplex with K18?
Yes. Many clients layer both in the same service for maximum bond support. Your stylist will recommend based on your hair.
