What Is a Men's Haircut at Kohort?
A men's haircut at Kohort is a tailored, considered cut delivered by a qualified stylist who understands how to work with your hair growth patterns, face shape and lifestyle rather than a one-size clipper pass. Our men's book covers the full spectrum of modern men's hair, from traditional scissor crops and classic business cuts through to sharp skin fades, textured French crops, longer flow styles, modern mullets, and the kind of considered short cuts that work as well on a building site as they do in a boardroom.
The co-working model at Kohort changes what a men's appointment feels like. Our stylists own their books, control their pacing, and work directly with you from consultation to finish. There is no production-line rotation between chairs, no tap-tap quick clipper buzz. Expect a proper consultation, a proper cut, and a proper styled finish with product. The investment is real and so is the result.
Men's cuts at Kohort are performed by Sheree, Billie and Zoe. Each has their own strengths and client book, and the right stylist for you depends on what you want. Sheree is our precision specialist, with over twenty years of experience across classic and modern men's work, a steady hand on scissor crops, and a particular strength in cuts that work with existing cowlicks and tricky growth patterns. Billie brings a creative edge shaped by thirty years in the industry, ideal for men who want a cut with a bit of attitude, whether that is a mullet, a wolf cut, or a textured fringe piece. Zoe, our blonde-focused stylist, also takes men's cut bookings, particularly for clients after sharper modern crops, skin fades and well-defined line work.
Men's cuts at Kohort are not limited to classic barbering references. We cut across the full modern men's spectrum because Melbourne's men's hair market has diversified substantially. Longer flow cuts, curly and textured cuts, modern mullets with soft layering, grown-out fringes, shaggy surfer styles, and considered short cuts with tailored detail are all well represented in our book.
We are not a traditional barbershop. The experience is quieter, the appointment is longer, the finish is considered, and the consultation builds a cut around your hair rather than imposing a template on it. Our pricing reflects that approach. Clients who want a ten-minute clipper buzz are better served elsewhere. Clients who want a genuine men's haircut that feels tailored, considered and well-finished will find their stylist at Kohort.
For services beyond cutting (keratin smoothing, colour, bond repair, scalp ritual) all of our treatment and colour menus are available to male clients as well. Plenty of men add a K18 treatment after a cut, or book a Kohort Scalp Ritual as part of a broader self-care appointment.
How KOHORT Approaches Men's Haircuts
A men's cut at Kohort begins with a proper consultation, even for returning clients. Your stylist looks at how your hair grows, where your cowlicks sit, how your hairline falls, whether you have a double crown, and how your hair naturally falls when it is dry and wind-styled. That information shapes the cut in ways a rushed appointment cannot. Understanding your growth pattern is what separates a cut that sits down naturally from one that fights you every morning.
Next comes the conversation about lifestyle and maintenance. How often do you actually come in for a cut? Every three weeks, every six, every ten? What are you willing to do at home? Do you use product? Are you hopeful about a cut that looks good day-of and messy by week two, or are you after something that genuinely holds up across a full six to eight week rebook cycle? Your answers shape the cut length, shape and detail work.
For short cuts, scissor versus clipper is a consultation point. Scissor cuts produce softer outlines, work beautifully on coarse or wavy hair that responds well to layered texture, and are a favourite with men who want a modern French crop or a softer textured look. Clipper cuts produce sharper outlines, precise fade lines and clean detail work. Many of our men's cuts combine both, scissor through the top and clipper on the back and sides for a hybrid finish that delivers precision and softness together.
Skin fades are a common request. We cut skin fades from low to high with care, blending the gradient cleanly and using neck shaving techniques that leave skin smooth rather than irritated. For clients with sensitive skin, we will adjust the blend approach to minimise rash potential.
Texture matters. Men with wavy, curly or coarse hair often benefit significantly from a textured crop approach, where internal layering removes weight and encourages the natural texture to work with the cut. Men with fine hair benefit from precision weight distribution to create the appearance of density. Men with thick straight hair need weight management through the top to avoid helmet-head.
Men's cuts at Kohort include a shampoo, a full cut, a finishing style with product, and a conversation about home styling. Product recommendations are honest and based on what the stylist actually uses themselves. Davines, Kevin Murphy and other men's-appropriate lines sit on our retail shelf.
For clients with longer hair, curly hair, thick hair, or hair that is showing signs of damage from heat styling or chemical work, our treatment menu is available. K18 Molecular Repair from $50 is a quiet favourite among men with long thick hair. Kérastase Fusio Dose at $50 is a strong add-on for men preparing for weddings, job interviews, formal events or photography. The Kohort Scalp Ritual from $80 is increasingly booked by male clients as part of a broader wellness routine.
We also cut kids' hair on a case-by-case basis, particularly for clients whose children are coming through. Ask your stylist when you book.
Who Performs Men's Haircuts at KOHORT
Men's haircuts at Kohort are performed by three of our stylists. Each has a distinct strength.
Sheree, Precision Men's Cuts, Scissor Crops and Short Hair
With over twenty years of industry experience, Sheree is our precision specialist for men's work. Scissor crops, classic business cuts, modern French crops, clean skin fades, tailored short cuts, and the kind of considered detail that builds a loyal rebook book. Sheree is particularly strong on cuts that work with difficult growth patterns, cowlicks and double crowns. If your hair has always been a bit awkward to cut, Sheree is the stylist you book. Book with Sheree.
Billie, Creative Men's Cuts, Mullets and Textured Work
Thirty years of industry experience combined with an artistic eye makes Billie the stylist to book for men wanting a cut with personality. Mullets, wolf cuts, modern shags, textured fringes, grown-out cuts, creative colour on men's hair (copper, bleach and tone, pastels) and gender-neutral style all sit in her wheelhouse. Currently welcoming existing clients only. Book with Billie.
Zoe, Modern Men's Crops, Skin Fades and Blonde Work
Zoe's book is primarily blonde-focused but she takes a steady stream of men's cut bookings, particularly sharper modern crops, skin fades, defined line work, and men's blonde work for clients who want bleach-and-tone or highlighted lifts. Strong for men who want a cleanly finished modern short cut. Book with Zoe.

Men's Haircut Process, What to Expect
1. Consultation
Your stylist looks at your hair dry, checks growth patterns, cowlicks, hairline and how your hair falls naturally. They ask about your lifestyle, rebook rhythm, home styling and what you want from the cut.
2. Shampoo
A proper shampoo, typically with a Kérastase, Davines or Kevin Murphy men's shampoo depending on your hair. For clients with build-up, a clarifying shampoo may be used.
3. Cut
The cut itself. For scissor work, sections are cut methodically with careful attention to internal weight and external outline. For clipper work, fades are built from low to high with careful blending. Hybrid cuts combine both approaches.
4. Detail Work
Outline cleaning around ears, neckline shaping, and any fine detail work on top. Skin fade edges are refined at this stage.
5. Style with Product
The cut is blow-dried or towel-dried depending on the look, and finished with styling product. Your stylist talks you through what they are using and how to recreate the finish at home.
6. Home Styling Brief
A short conversation about home styling, product recommendations and rebook rhythm. If a treatment or scalp ritual add-on is recommended, that conversation happens here.
Men's Haircut Pricing at KOHORT
Men's haircut pricing at Kohort varies by stylist, hair length and cut complexity. As a guide, most men's cuts at Kohort range from $60 to $100 depending on the cut type, the stylist, and whether there are fade or detail elements involved. Longer hair with significant layering work, creative cut work with Billie, or combined services are priced at the upper end of the range.
Complementary treatments and add-ons are priced separately. K18 Molecular Repair from $50 for damage recovery. Kérastase Fusio Dose at $50 for shine and condition. Davines Liquid Luster at $25 for a light gloss finish. Kohort Scalp Ritual from $80. L'Oréal Metal Detox from $45 for clients with colour or mineral history.
For creative colour work on men's hair (bleach and tone, copper, pastels, fashion colour) pricing is quoted at consultation and varies significantly based on hair length, condition and desired result.
If you want a precise quote before booking, email salon@kohort.com.au with a clear photo of your current hair, a reference image of what you are chasing, and a note on your rebook rhythm. We will come back with a firm number.
Aftercare for Men's Haircuts
Men's haircut aftercare is straightforward and largely about product and rebook rhythm.
Use a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner at home. Sulphates strip colour (if you have had any colour work) and shorten the fresh-cut feel. Davines, Kérastase and Kevin Murphy all sit on our retail shelf in men's-appropriate formulations.
Use styling product appropriate to your cut and lifestyle. A textured paste for matte finish, a light pomade for medium hold and shine, a clay for strong hold and matte finish, a cream for curly or wavy hair, or a light salt spray for lived-in texture. Your stylist will prescribe based on your cut.
Heat protect before any hot tool use. Blow dryers are fine, but use a heat protectant if you are styling with a flat iron, wand or round brush.
Wash less. Men often over-wash, which strips natural oils and can dry out the scalp. Two to three times a week is ideal for most men.
Rebook on a rhythm that matches your cut. Short fades typically need every three to four weeks to stay sharp. Mid-length scissor cuts hold up at six to eight weeks. Longer cuts can stretch to eight to ten weeks. Your stylist will recommend a realistic rebook window at the end of your appointment.
For men with long thick hair, curly hair, or hair showing signs of heat or chemical damage, K18 Molecular Repair or Olaplex Bonding every six to eight weeks makes a meaningful difference to overall condition.
For men with scalp concerns (dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, thinning) the Kohort Scalp Ritual from $80 is increasingly booked as part of a broader wellness and hair-health routine.
Who Men's Haircuts at KOHORT Are Ideal For
Men's haircuts at Kohort are ideal for men who want a genuine tailored cut rather than a quick buzz, for men with tricky growth patterns and cowlicks that have been cut around rather than worked with for years, for men with wavy, curly or coarse hair who want a stylist who understands texture, for men who want creative or fashion cuts (mullets, wolf cuts, shags, bleach and tone, creative colour), for men who want a proper consultation rather than a five-second conversation, and for men who value the considered, slower pace of a tailored salon over the production-line feel of a traditional barbershop.
Corporate clients in South Yarra, Cremorne tech offices, East Melbourne professional services, Collins Street law and finance, and the CBD apartment belt book Sheree for precision business cuts that look sharp through long work weeks.
Creative professionals in Fitzroy, Collingwood, Abbotsford, Northcote and Windsor book Billie for cuts with personality, often combined with fashion colour work.
Sports and active lifestyle clients, including AFL-adjacent crowds around Richmond and Cremorne, tech workers from the Silicon Yarra precinct, and riverside-lifestyle Burnley and Hawthorn locals book Sheree and Zoe for low-maintenance cuts that survive helmets, caps and gym routines.
Men's cuts at Kohort may not suit clients who want a ten-minute clipper-only service. Our appointments run thirty to sixty minutes depending on the complexity of the cut, and the pricing reflects that pacing. If speed is your priority, a traditional barbershop may suit better.
Men's Haircuts for Clients Across Inner Melbourne
Our men's cut book pulls clients from every inner Melbourne suburb. Richmond locals walk in from the surrounding streets and the Cremorne tech precinct, where SEEK, REA, MYOB, Disney Australia and Tesla offices drive a steady weekday book of tailored corporate cuts. Bridge Road and Swan Street professionals book Sheree and Zoe as a standing six-to-eight-week rotation. Burnley and East Melbourne clients book precision cuts that work with active outdoor routines.
From south of the river, South Yarra clients cross Punt Road for tailored precision cuts, particularly finance, law and real estate professionals wanting clean, sharp cuts that work on Collins Street and Chapel Street alike. Toorak clients book Sheree for refined business cuts and grey blending. Prahran and Windsor clients are a strong creative-cut book, often going to Billie for mullets, shags and fashion colour. The LGBTQ+ community along Commercial Road Prahran book across all three stylists for gender-affirming cuts and creative work. St Kilda clients book beach-friendly textured cuts and longer shag and surfer styles.
From the north, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North and Collingwood clients are Billie's heartland for creative men's cuts, mullets, wolf cuts and modern shags. Clifton Hill and Abbotsford clients book a mix of precision work with Sheree and creative cuts with Billie. Northcote and Fairfield clients are a significant book for modern textured work, particularly men with curly and wavy hair looking for stylists who understand texture. Carlton and Carlton North clients, including University of Melbourne academics, hospital professionals and researchers, book Sheree for polished academic-appropriate cuts.
From the east, Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn and Hawthorn East clients book Sheree for refined precision work, polished business cuts, grey blending and classic styles. Boroondara men's cut clients often build loyal relationships with a single stylist over years. Balwyn's strong Asian-Australian clientele book precision cuts on dense dark hair, with particular attention to blend lines and detail work. Melbourne CBD apartment-belt clients book lunchtime and Friday afternoon men's cut appointments on a tight rebook rhythm.
Hospitality, retail and creative-industry workers from across the inner-city book flexible evening or Saturday men's cuts. Our Saturday men's book is consistently strong for Fitzroy, Collingwood and Northcote clients combining a cut with weekend coffee and errands in the Richmond precinct.
