Bridal and Event Styling in Kew, Kohort Studio Richmond
Refined, classic bridal and event hair for Kew brides, Xavier and MLC formal guests and Spring Racing attendees, led by Sheridan May Hair.
Kew's Dedicated Bridal and Event Styling Specialists
Kew bridal sits in old-Melbourne territory. Heritage homes on Cotham Road, private school legacies at Xavier, MLC, Trinity and Carey, the Studley Park Boathouse sitting on the Yarra bend, and weddings that tend to run the traditional script: church ceremony, classic reception venue, professional photography from multiple angles, long guest list with grandparents and extended family. The bridal brief is almost always refined over styled-up, classic over trend-led, and photograph-durable.
Kohort Studio sits at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond, twelve to sixteen minutes across the Yarra from Kew Junction. Our bridal and event styling practice is led by Sheridan May Hair, a Melbourne bridal specialist with a long classic portfolio. Grace handles bridesmaids and accessible bridal bookings. Zoe brings polished modern styling. Taylah covers the editorial end, and Sheree handles short-hair brides, mother-of-the-bride and grandmother-of-the-bride bookings.
The Kew bridal calendar tracks the Melbourne peaks: October and November (Spring Racing plus wedding season), February and March (autumn weddings), May and June (winter indoor). On top of that, the Xavier College, MLC, Trinity Grammar and Carey Baptist formal cycle drives a strong October and November booking wave. Saturday bridal in peak season typically closes six to nine months out.
Spring Racing overlaps. Derby Day, Melbourne Cup Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day each generate a Flemington styling wave. Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate at Moonee Valley round out the spring calendar. Cup Week bookings need to be locked in by August at the latest.
What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Bridal and Event Styling Near Kew
The first answer is Sheridan. Sheridan May Hair is a classic and editorial bridal specialist with a long Melbourne wedding portfolio. Chignons, soft half-ups, low buns with pearl detail, veiled looks, slick modern ponytails. For Kew brides at Studley Park Boathouse or Leonda, classic is usually the brief, and classic is Sheridan's strongest territory.
The second answer is the trial. A Kohort bridal trial is ninety minutes with clean, dry hair, your veil or headpiece if possible, and a curated set of references. We work through two or three concepts, land on the direction, adjust in the chair, and photograph the result from every angle. You leave with a look agreed, product notes for the week leading in, and a wedding morning timeline.
The third answer is the pre-trial consultation. For Kew brides with an heirloom veil, a grandmother's headpiece, fresh flowers from the Kew Library gardens, or a specific religious ceremony brief (Catholic at St Patrick's Cathedral or a synagogue service), we run a fifteen to twenty minute consultation first. The ceremony setting shapes the direction.
The fourth answer is family coordination. Kew weddings often have large bridal parties and three generations in attendance. Sheridan and the team travel to the Cotham Road family home, the Kew hotel, or Studley Park and run a mapped-backwards timeline so everyone lands ready. Grandmother styling alongside bridesmaid styling on the same morning is a regular booking pattern for us.
The fifth answer is pre-wedding colour. Most bridal clients are colour clients. Balayage, gloss, seamless grey coverage, soft highlights and bond-building treatments get sequenced from four months out through to two weeks before. Taylah, Zoe, Billie and Sheree handle the colour. For Kew mothers-of-the-bride, invisible grey coverage in the week before is often booked with the trial.
The sixth answer is the finish. A bridal set that holds through the full Leonda or Studley Park day is layered: Kevin Murphy Session Spray Flex for the working set, Kérastase Laque Couture for the lock, Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray for grip on day-two hair, and Kérastase Elixir Ultime shine spray for photographic glow. Every product has a purpose.
Bridal and Event Styling Process and What to Expect
Consultation first. Six to nine months out, twenty minutes in salon or via email. We discuss venue, date, dress silhouette, headpiece or veil, bridesmaid palette, mother-of-the-bride preferences, family logistics. A rough direction is agreed.
Trial next. Three to four months out from the wedding, ninety minutes with your stylist. Clean, dry, day-two hair. Accessories if you have them. References curated down to the three or four you care most about. Two or three concepts tested, direction finalised, photos taken for the day-of reference.
Pre-wedding colour and maintenance. Your colourist maps the calendar. Balayage or full-head colour three to four months out. Gloss or toner six weeks out. Keratin smoothing, if relevant, four to six weeks out. Final trim one to two weeks out. No major colour changes inside two weeks.
Wedding day styling. Sheridan and the team travel to your location (a Kew family home, hotel, or Studley Park Boathouse itself) and style bride, bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride, flower girls and family in a coordinated sequence. Timeline is mapped backwards from the ceremony with a thirty-minute photography buffer.
Touch-up kit. A small kit with bobby pins, travel hairspray, shine spray and comb for the car ride and between ceremony and reception.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a Kew wedding at Kohort?
Six to nine months ahead for Saturday weddings in peak season. Three to four months for weekday or off-peak. Trials three to four months out.
Do you travel to the venue for day-of styling?
Yes. Sheridan and the team travel to Kew, Hawthorn, Camberwell, Balwyn, Richmond, the CBD and most inner Melbourne wedding locations. Regional Victoria is doable with additional travel and accommodation fees.
Can you do my colour as well as my bridal styling?
Yes. Taylah, Zoe, Billie or Sheree coordinate the colour calendar from consultation through to the final touch-up.
What about Xavier, MLC and Trinity formals?
Yes. October and November are our formal season peak. Book from September. Grace, Taylah, Zoe and Sheree all take formal bookings.
Can you style my bridesmaids, mother and grandmother of the bride?
Yes, coordinated on the wedding morning. Three-generation styling on a single Saturday is a regular booking pattern for us.
I am the mother or grandmother of the bride, can I book just for myself?
Yes. Sheree is a strong call for refined styling on shorter hair or bobs. Sheridan and Zoe handle longer styled-up looks.
Will my hair hold for twelve hours across ceremony, photos and reception?
If styled properly, yes. Pre-prep, strategic pinning, and finishing products are what makes the set last from morning through to the dance floor.
What venues do you style for around Kew?
Studley Park Boathouse, Leonda by the Yarra, Como House, Quat Quatta, Vogue Ballroom Burwood, the RACV City Club, St Patrick's Cathedral for the ceremony, and Cotham Road private home receptions.
Can you handle a bridal party of eight or ten?
Yes. We block-book two or three stylists across a morning for larger parties. Email salon@kohort.com.au at least three months ahead to confirm availability.
Can I bring my veil or headpiece to the trial?
Yes, and we encourage it. At minimum, bring clear photos. If you can physically bring the veil, headpiece or hair jewellery, the trial is much more accurate.
