Fitzroy's Dedicated Colour Correction Specialists

Fitzroy is arguably the most fashion-forward hair audience in Melbourne, and that comes with a particular relationship to colour correction. Fitzroy clients experiment. They try references from Evan Joseph, Sal Salcedo and the broader editorial scene. They move between mullets, shags, wolf cuts, bixies, bowl cuts, bleach and tone, copper, cherry, pastel and silver fashion colours across the course of a couple of years. They push stylists on technical limits. Sometimes the experiments go well, and sometimes they do not. When they do not, a proper colour correction service is the way out.

The Fitzroy correction brief we see most often is multi-layered. A fashion colour that was lifted badly and now sits patchy. A copper that has faded to brass and needs resetting rather than stripping. A silver that pulled green in the tone. A bleach and tone that left the ends straw-like and needs an integrity pause before any further lift. A creative foil placement that banded and needs softening back to a lived-in finish. A mullet or shag that was coloured in sections and now looks inconsistent as it has grown. At-home box dye corrections are less common in Fitzroy than in more generalist suburbs, but they happen, and usually with a fashion-colour back-story.

Kohort sits at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond, on the north side between Lord Street and Docker Street. From Fitzroy the run south down Smith Street or Brunswick Street, left onto Victoria Parade, across Hoddle Street and right onto Bridge Road is ten to twelve minutes outside peak. Colour correction is a service the co-working model is particularly well suited to. Correction is slow, technical and cannot be rushed. Every colourist at Kohort owns their chair, runs their own diary, and is not being pushed to fit additional bookings into the day. A six hour correction booking is six hours of one stylist's full attention.

Fitzroy clients tend to be colour-literate, reference-led and direct about what they want. They will tell you where the previous salon went wrong, what they think the formula should have been, and what the reference they brought in would have required. That kind of client is the best client for correction work, because the consultation can be efficient and the plan can be made collaboratively. The Kohort colourists who take on correction work, Sheree, Billie and Taylah, are experienced enough to have those conversations without feeling undermined by them.

What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Colour Correction Near Fitzroy

The first reason is Sheree. Sheree is our lead colour correction stylist with over twenty years of industry experience. Correction is her core specialty. She has seen the full range of what can go wrong in colour across inner Melbourne, and she has pattern-recognition that you cannot replicate with shorter experience. For Fitzroy clients bringing a multi-layered correction brief, Sheree is the default recommendation.

The second reason is Billie for creative correction. Billie brings thirty years of colour experience and is particularly strong on warm-tone corrections, copper resets and lived-in bleach repairs. The Fitzroy brief frequently involves a creative reference gone wrong, and Billie's eye for warm, editorial work makes her a strong fit for that kind of correction.

The third reason is Taylah for referenced correction work. Taylah runs Studio by Taylah inside Kohort and is particularly strong on the kind of correction where you bring an Instagram reference of where your colour should actually be sitting, and want it executed. That is a common Fitzroy brief.

The fourth reason is the bond-support protocol. Correction is lift-heavy and cannot be run without bond support. L'Oréal Metal Detox goes on pre-colour to neutralise metal particles from prior colour, at-home products or hard water. Olaplex bonding is worked through the lightener to protect internal bonds during lift. K18 molecular repair is applied post-rinse to restart peptide bonds. For stubborn previous fashion colour, a colour remover is used first before any lightener. These are protocol, not upsells.

The fifth reason is staged correction honesty. Not every correction fits in a single session. We will tell you before booking when a correction needs to be planned across two or three sessions, and we will quote the staged plan up front. For Fitzroy clients coming in after a failed correction at another salon, that transparency is often the biggest differentiator. Surprise chair charges and rushed single-session corrections are the complaints we hear most often.

The sixth reason is the unhurried co-working pace. Correction needs time. Kohort gives it. No juggling, no junior handovers, no rushing to close. The stylist who consults with you is the stylist who works through every stage of your correction.

Colour Correction at Kohort, Process and What to Expect

Consultation

Forty-five minutes minimum. In natural light, dry hair, with a full colour history conversation. Photographs of the starting point, the discussed target, and a mapped path to get there. Complex corrections are usually quoted as multi-session plans.

Strand Test

For any lift over two levels or any unknown chemical history, a strand test is run ahead of the main appointment. This is a small, low-risk processed section that shows exactly how your hair will respond to the proposed formula.

Preparation

Pre-colour L'Oréal Metal Detox to neutralise metals. Clarifying or chelating treatments if buildup is interfering with lift. Sectioning. Olaplex or K18 mixed into the lightener.

Correction

The actual work. This may be a colour remover first, then a lift, then a tone. It may be a soft balayage back into banded foil lines. It may be a reset of a fashion colour that has faded unevenly. Every correction formula is custom.

Bond Support

K18 molecular repair or Olaplex bonding applied mid-service and post-rinse to restore fibre integrity.

Tone and Gloss

Kérastase Chroma Absolu or Blond Absolu toner, or a demi-permanent gloss, calibrated to skin tone and target shade. For copper and red resets, a gloss layered over a lifted base builds tone depth without pulling it brassy.

Finishing

Blow dry, style, retail recommendations and a realistic rebook window. Multi-session corrections leave with the next appointment already calendared.

Getting to Kohort from Fitzroy

Kohort is at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond, on the north side between Lord Street and Docker Street. From Fitzroy the run is direct. Head south down Smith Street or Brunswick Street, turn left onto Victoria Parade, cross Hoddle Street, and bear right onto Bridge Road. Ten to twelve minutes outside peak. From the northern end of Fitzroy near Alexandra Parade add two to three minutes.

By public transport the 11 tram runs down Brunswick Street, the 86 tram runs down Smith Street, and the 96 tram runs down Nicholson Street. All three connect toward the CBD, where you can transfer onto the 48 or 75 tram east along Bridge Road to our stretch near Lennox Street. Parliament Station is a short walk from southern Fitzroy and connects to Jolimont, from which Richmond is a short walk.

Cyclists have a clean route via the Wellington Parade separated path, which runs east from the CBD and feeds into Bridge Road at Hoddle Street. For a six-hour correction booking, driving is the usual Fitzroy client choice. Metered on-street parking runs along Bridge Road, Lord Street and Docker Street. For longer bookings, Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre 500 metres east has generous paid parking, which is our default recommendation for any correction over three hours.

Colour Correction Pricing at Kohort

Correction pricing is the most variable service category at Kohort. Every correction is different, and pricing reflects the hours your stylist is in your hair and the number of sessions required. As a guide, single-session corrections typically start around $450 to $600. Staged corrections across two or three sessions can sit in the $800 to $1500 range total. Bond-support treatments, including L'Oréal Metal Detox $45, Olaplex Bonding $50 and K18 Molecular Repair $50, are priced separately and are effectively required for any significant correction.

A consultation before booking is not optional for correction work. Fifteen to twenty minutes in-salon with your colourist in natural light is the only reliable way to quote a correction. If coming in is not easy, email salon@kohort.com.au with clear photos front, back and ends plus a reference of where you want to be, and we will come back with a plan and estimated cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the drive from Fitzroy to Richmond worth it for colour correction?

Yes. Ten to twelve minutes south via Smith Street or Brunswick Street and Hoddle. For a twenty-year specialist like Sheree, the short trip is well worth it. Most Fitzroy correction clients become long-term Kohort regulars after their first session.

How long does colour correction take at Kohort?

Three to six hours for a single-session correction. Multi-session corrections are broken into blocks of three to four hours per visit. Your stylist quotes specific time at consultation.

What products do you use for colour correction?

L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment, Olaplex and K18 through and after the lightener, colour removers where needed, Kérastase Chroma Absolu and Blond Absolu toners, Bhave for smoothing finish if needed. The stack is the same one on our retail wall.

Can I park near 234 Bridge Road for a six hour appointment?

Yes. Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre 500 metres east has generous paid parking. Avoid two-hour limited metered spots if you are booked for a full-day correction.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes, always. Correction is not a service we book without seeing the hair or clear photos first. The consultation is free and gives you a quote, timing estimate and plan before committing.

How often will I come back after a correction?

Depends on where the correction landed you. If you have moved back to a lived-in balayage, the normal ten to fourteen week balayage cycle applies. If you have moved into a gloss-maintained brunette, every six to eight weeks.

Will colour correction damage my hair?

There is always an impact with lift-heavy work. The protocol is built around bond support specifically to minimise damage. Olaplex, K18 and Metal Detox plus a staged plan for stubborn cases keep hair in better condition than a rushed single-session correction would.

Can you reset a faded fashion colour?

Yes. Copper reset, silver reset, cherry reset, peach and pastel refresh, all handled under correction protocols. Billie in particular is strong on warm-tone fashion-colour resets.

Can you fix a patchy bleach and tone?

Yes. This is one of the more common Fitzroy corrections. We typically address it with a gentle rework of the uneven sections, bond support, and a targeted tone rather than a full re-lift.

Do Collingwood, Carlton and CBD clients also come for correction?

Yes. The inner-Yarra and inner-Melbourne correction book runs steady from Fitzroy, Collingwood, Fitzroy North, Carlton, Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Abbotsford, East Melbourne and the CBD. All sit inside fifteen minutes of 234 Bridge Road.
