Hawthorn's Dedicated Colour Correction Specialists

Hawthorn is an expectations-set suburb. Glenferrie Road, Grace Park, Scotch College, MLC, Swinburne. Clients who have been colouring their hair for twenty years and know exactly what a good foil looks like and what a bad one looks like. When a Hawthorn client books a colour correction, something has gone visibly wrong and the bar for fixing it is high.

Common Hawthorn colour correction briefs: a previously well-maintained blonde that has gone brassy or dull through a salon change. A foil service that has stripes instead of dimension. A box dye applied at home during a long weekend that will not come out. A balayage from another salon that ended up banded, hot at the roots or muddy on the ends. A gradual warmth that has built up across two or three services and needs a reset. A bridal colour that is not matching the dress two weeks out. An ombre from five years ago that is still visible as a line through the mid-lengths.

Kohort Studio at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond, is ten to fourteen minutes west along Bridge Road. Our colour correction practice is led by Sheree, with over twenty years of industry experience and a detail-heavy, patient technique. Billie supports with thirty years of colour experience (existing clients), and Taylah contributes on corrections that end in signature blonde.

The co-working model at Kohort is what makes colour correction viable. A proper correction is three to six hours of uninterrupted attention from a single colourist. Kohort is built for that. No handovers to juniors. No pulling the colourist off your head to work on someone else's foils. No daily booking target forcing the service into a shorter window than the hair needs. For a Hawthorn client who has had a bad correction experience at a high-volume salon, the Kohort model is the structural difference.

What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Colour Correction Near Hawthorn

The first answer is Sheree. Twenty-plus years of industry experience, a detail-heavy, patient technique, and a strong track record with box-dye removal, foil de-banding, ombre softening, balayage rebuilds and full colour resets. If you have been told by other salons that your hair cannot be fixed, Sheree is the second opinion to book.

The second answer is diagnosis. Sheree's consultation is longer than many salons' full services. She will look at your hair dry in natural light, read your full colour history, map the existing tone across the lengths, identify the damage points and sequence the correction backwards from the end goal. For a Hawthorn client who has sat in chair after chair hearing the same rote plan, the specific diagnostic approach is a notable change.

The third answer is time. Corrections at Kohort are booked at the time the service actually needs, rather than at a daily booking target. Four, five or six hours where hair calls for it. We will sometimes tell you the correction needs to be staged across two or three visits over six to eight weeks. Hearing that up front is better than hearing it halfway through an appointment that has already compromised the hair.

The fourth answer is product protocol. Every correction at Kohort runs on bond support. L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treats hair with mineral, chlorine or box-dye history. Olaplex and K18 Molecular Repair protect internal bonds through processing. Kérastase Fusio Dose finishes with shine and softness. For Hawthorn clients with lifted hair that has been getting serviced for years, the bond support keeps the ends intact while the correction resolves the tone.

The fifth answer is honesty. If your hair cannot safely get to the colour you have screenshotted in one session, we will say so. If the right call is to wait six weeks between visits, we will say so. If the honest answer is that the colour you want requires a shorter cut to remove damaged ends, we will say so. That conversation saves you grief at week three.

Colour Correction Process and What to Expect

Consultation first, either booked ahead of the service or included as the first thirty to forty-five minutes of the appointment. Dry hair, natural light, full colour history including at-home tints, box dyes, henna, masks and any chlorine or mineral exposure.

Strand test may follow if the history is uncertain or significant lift is planned. Thirty minutes for a reliable read on how your hair will process before we commit.

Plan is agreed. Sequence written out, number of visits confirmed, rest periods mapped, total quote provided.

Pre-treatment is L'Oréal Metal Detox or a chelating treatment where hair has box dye, mineral or chlorine history. Without this step, lift is unpredictable and often uneven.

Correction work depends on what is being fixed. Banded foils de-banded with diluted lightener and a shadow root. Box dye removed with colour remover (Colour B4 or similar) or gentle lift. Ombre softened with mid-length painting and a root smudge. Brassy blonde toned and glossed with a cool tone. Each is its own sequence.

Bond support runs through. Olaplex No.1 and No.2 or K18 Molecular Repair protecting internal bonds.

Toning is where the correction either lands or misses. Your colourist tones with the finished shade and your skin tone in mind. For Hawthorn clients, the target tone is usually cool-to-neutral beige, soft honey, signature blonde or invisible grey blending.

Finishing includes a Kérastase Fusio Dose Ritual, styled blow-dry, realistic rebook timing and a written home-care plan.

Colour Correction Pricing at Kohort

Colour correction is quoted at consultation rather than from a fixed menu, because no two corrections are the same.

As a rough guide, a single-session correction with lift, tone, bond support and blow-dry starts from around $450 and scales with length, density and the complexity of the fix. Box-dye removal, significant foil de-banding or multi-process corrections often run $600 to $900 in a single session or across two to three staged visits.

Included in every correction: consultation time, L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment where needed, Olaplex or K18 bond support through processing, toning, Kérastase Fusio Dose finish and a styled blow-dry.

Mid-correction maintenance and glosses between staged visits are priced separately, typically $120 to $200 depending on tone work and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

My blonde has gone dull and brassy, can it be fixed in one visit?

Usually yes. A tone correction with a gloss and bond-builder in a single two-to-three-hour session can neutralise warmth and restore cool-neutral tone for another six to eight weeks. If the underlying placement also has issues, a fuller correction may be the right call.

How many sessions will my correction need?

Depends on what is being fixed. Tone correction or gloss refresh is one session. Foil de-banding is usually one session. Box-dye removal and lift to signature blonde is often two to three sessions over six to twelve weeks to protect integrity. Sheree will map the sequence at consultation.

I used box dye once during lockdown. Can you lift it out?

Usually yes, with a Metal Detox pre-treatment and a gentle lift. Box dye is notorious for leaving metal particles that cause unpredictable lift. We work slowly, in stages, and protect the hair throughout.

Will my hair be damaged after the correction?

Not if the service is done properly with bond support and good aftercare. Guests who follow the aftercare plan typically leave with ends in better condition than they arrived, because the underlying colour is healthier and less abrasive on the cuticle.

Can you fix a banded foil from another salon?

Yes. Sheree regularly de-bands foils, softens ombre, and rebuilds balayage. One to two visits in most cases.

How long is a colour correction appointment?

Three to six hours for a single-session correction. Staged corrections run shorter sessions (two to four hours) with rest periods of four to eight weeks between.

Can you correct my colour before a wedding or formal?

Yes. Sheree plans backwards from the event date, leaving at least two weeks between the final correction and the day so toning settles. Sheridan then takes over for bridal or event styling.

What about grey coverage combined with correction?

Common Hawthorn brief. We thread invisible grey coverage through the root area while the correction addresses the lengths. Done properly, the grey coverage is invisible and the corrected colour is the only tone anyone sees.

Can I bring photos of what went wrong and what I want?

Yes, and please do. Photos of the current hair in natural light, photos of the original result you wanted, and references for the end goal all help the consultation.

Is parking easy for a six-hour appointment?

Yes. Metered on-street parking on Bridge Road, Lord Street and Docker Street, or unlimited paid parking at Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre 500 metres east. For a six-hour correction, use Victoria Gardens.
