Colour Correction Northcote

Patient, bond-built colour correction for Northcote's ingredient-literate, gentle-colour crowd, delivered in a Richmond studio that books the hours your hair actually needs rather than forcing a one-session fix.

Northcote's Dedicated Colour Correction Specialists

Colour correction is the hardest service in a salon. It is also the one that the volume model handles worst. Which is why so many of the bookings in our colour correction column come from Northcote, where clients tend to have already tried the local High Street or Thornbury option, walked out of a four hour appointment with a result that still needs fixing, and come across to Kohort Richmond for a proper staged plan.

A colour correction at Kohort is not a single appointment with a promise of a one-session miracle. It is a technical plan, often staged across two or three visits, built to move your hair from where it is now to where you want it to be without frying the mid-lengths along the way. The Northcote clientele, creative families, musicians, designers, academics, ABC staff and the long-term Greek community that shaped High Street in the first place, tends to come in with that expectation set already. They want the slow, careful version. They do not want a colourist promising a three-hour fix on a seven-year box dye history.

What we see from Northcote specifically is a recognisable pattern of corrections. Banded foils from a previous salon, where the regrowth lines from multiple appointments have stacked up into visible stripes. Box dye build-up from the High Street pharmacy run, where a series of at-home dye jobs have left the hair porous, warm and uneven. Ombre that has grown in past the point it worked, with a hard line where the natural root meets the lifted ends. Warmth from a lightening service that was left on too long, landing in brass or orange. Copper that lifted unevenly because no one ran a Metal Detox pre-treatment. Fashion colour that faded unevenly. Grey blending that was pulled too cool and now reads as flat silver.

Every one of these briefs is solvable. The question is how much of your hair's integrity we want to spend doing it, and how many appointments it will take to land the final colour. A real colour correction consultation gives you a staged plan in writing with a rough cost estimate for each stage. That is what the Northcote brief asks for, and that is what Kohort delivers.

Kohort Studio sits at 234 Bridge Road Richmond, fourteen to twenty minutes from Northcote by car. For a service as long and as specialist-heavy as colour correction, the trip south is worth it for the pace alone. We book colour correction as dedicated three to six hour appointments with no interruptions, which is simply not something the volume salon model can offer.

What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Colour Correction Near Northcote

Colour correction is where the co-working studio model proves its value the most clearly. There are four reasons Northcote clients keep booking Kohort for correction work.

First, the pace. Every stylist at Kohort owns their own chair, sets their own pricing, and manages their own diary. A five hour correction appointment is genuinely five hours of your stylist's attention, no handovers to a junior, no pulling-away to approve someone else's foils, no constant clock-watching to fit the next head in. For a correction that might need Metal Detox pre-treatment, a staged bleach bath, a pull-through, a gloss and a tone, all in a single sitting, that pace is the only way the work gets done properly.

Second, the specialist bench. Colour correction at Kohort is led by Sheree, who has over twenty years of industry experience and is the colourist most of our correction clients end up in the chair with. Billie brings thirty years of experience and an artistic eye, particularly strong on warm tones and creative corrections. Taylah is the third colourist we trust with staged corrections, with a strong eye for tone work and bond protection. Three specialists deep, with real craft depth on corrections specifically.

Third, bond building as standard. Every correction at Kohort runs L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment, Olaplex or K18 bond support through any lightening step, Kérastase or Davines toners, and a bonding finishing treatment. Corrections without bond support are how hair ends up in pieces. We do not cut corners here.

Fourth, honesty about staging. The single most important thing a correction specialist can give you is a realistic answer to "can we do this in one session". Sometimes the answer is yes. More often the answer is no, we can do stage one today, stage two in four to six weeks, stage three later. A colourist who promises a one-session fix on a complex correction is often the same colourist who damages your hair trying to prove the promise. We do not do that. Your quote and your plan are in writing at consultation.

The fifth answer, location. Northcote to Richmond is a twenty minute drive south, Bridge Road has real parking for three to six hour appointments, and our studio is built to be the calm alternative to the High Street and Thornbury chain-salon model.

Colour Correction Process and What to Expect

Colour correction at Kohort always starts with a proper consultation. Fifteen to thirty minutes depending on complexity, in salon, with your stylist looking at your hair dry, in natural light. We go through your full colour history. Box dye, salon colour, home bleach, henna, previous corrections, the products you use at home. Photos of the look you want. An assessment of current porosity, damage and tone.

At the end of consultation you get a staged plan. How many visits it will take. What each visit will achieve. What each visit will roughly cost. What the risks are. What home care you need between visits. That plan is written out so you can take it home, think about it, and book when you are ready.

Stage one is almost always a gentle reset. Depending on what we are correcting, that might be a bleach bath to lift existing colour evenly, a colour remover to strip artificial pigment, a toner pull-through to neutralise warmth, or a strategic lightening to break up banded foils. Every stage one includes Metal Detox pre-treatment, Olaplex or K18 bond support, and a bonding finish.

Stage two happens four to six weeks later. By that point your hair has had time to rest and your stylist can see how it has responded to stage one. Stage two usually builds on the reset, adding the new colour direction, refining tone and placing dimension.

Stage three, if it is needed, refines the final result, adds gloss, corrects any remaining tonal issues, and is often booked at the eight to ten week mark.

Home care between stages matters more than almost anything else. We prescribe it at consultation. K18 leave-in mist daily. A sulphate-free shampoo. A weekly bonding mask. Heat protection every time. Less washing.

Most Northcote corrections land across two visits. Complex cases, deep box dye history or extreme previous bleach, can run three or four.

Which Kohort Stylist Does Colour Correction

Three of our stylists lead colour correction work at Kohort.

Sheree is our colour correction lead. Over twenty years of industry experience, with a specialty in difficult corrections, complicated histories and short hair. Sheree is the colourist most of our correction bookings end up with. She will always give you a staged plan rather than promising a one-session miracle, and her work is detail-heavy and sharp. For Northcote clients with box dye history, stacked foil bands or complicated previous lifts, Sheree is the first name.

Billie has thirty years of colour experience and an artistic eye that is particularly useful on warm-toned corrections, copper reversals, and creative placements after a reset. Billie currently welcomes existing clients only, so check availability before booking a correction with her. For Northcote copper and ginger correction work specifically, Billie is often the best fit.

Taylah runs Studio by Taylah and is the third colourist we trust with staged correction work. Strong on tone correction, bond protection and lived-in rebuilds after a reset. Taylah books through her own Timely page.

If you are not sure who to book, email salon@kohort.com.au with photos of your current hair and your hair history, and we will match you to the right colourist. For complex corrections we will almost always recommend starting with Sheree.

Getting to Kohort from Northcote

Northcote to Kohort Studio Richmond is a south run. By car, head down High Street onto Hoddle Street, continue south, and turn left onto Bridge Road. Kohort is at 234 Bridge Road, on the north side of the street between Lord Street and Docker Street. Fourteen to twenty minutes outside peak. Up to twenty-five minutes if Hoddle Street is backed up.

For a five or six hour correction appointment, driving and parking is usually easier than multiple tram transfers. Metered on-street parking on Bridge Road, Lord Street and Docker Street is the first option. Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre car park 500 metres east is the fallback for anything longer than three hours. Avoid two-hour limited parking.

By public transport, the 86 tram runs down High Street into the CBD, with a transfer at Victoria Parade to the 48 or 75 tram along Bridge Road which stops directly outside the salon. The 11 tram along St Georges Road is another option. Train option is Northcote, Croxton or Westgarth stations on the Mernda line, with a transfer at Parliament or Flinders Street. Factor in forty to fifty minutes total for the transport route.

Riders can use the Merri Creek trail south to the Yarra and come in via the river on the Cremorne and Burnley side. Bike rings are on the street out the front of the salon.

Colour Correction Pricing at Kohort

Colour correction is priced per hour of chair time rather than as a fixed service. That is because every correction is unique and the time required depends on your hair, your history and what we are moving toward.

As a guide, correction rates are typically $150 to $200 per hour depending on the stylist. A full correction sitting is often three to six hours of chair time, so a single session can run $450 to $1,200. Staged corrections are quoted at consultation, with each stage given its own rough estimate.

Add-ons are priced separately. L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment from $45. K18 Molecular Repair from $50. Olaplex Bonding from $50. Kérastase Fusio Dose Ritual at $50. Davines Liquid Luster at $25 for a shine refresh.

The reason we do not quote fixed correction prices without seeing the hair is simple. Colour correction is the single most variable service in a salon. Surprise pricing is also the single biggest complaint we hear from clients who moved to us from chain salons after a bad correction experience. We will always give you a written quote at consultation before any product touches your hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Kohort from Northcote?

Fourteen to twenty minutes by car via High Street, Hoddle Street and Bridge Road. Up to twenty-five minutes at Hoddle Street rush hour.

Can colour correction be done in one appointment?

Sometimes yes, often no. Box dye history, stacked foil bands, or severe warmth usually need staging across two or three visits. One-session promises on complex corrections are often how hair ends up damaged.

How much does colour correction cost?

Per hour, typically $150 to $200 depending on the stylist. A single correction sitting of three to six hours runs $450 to $1,200. Staged plans are quoted at consultation with estimates for each stage.

Which stylist does colour correction at Kohort?

Sheree leads, with over twenty years of experience. Billie and Taylah also take correction work. For first bookings on complex corrections, Sheree is almost always the right call.

Can you fix box dye build-up?

Yes. Box dye reversal usually requires a colour remover or bleach bath, often staged across two visits to protect hair integrity. We pre-treat with Metal Detox and run Olaplex or K18 through the process.

Can you fix banded foils from another salon?

Yes. Banded foils are one of our most common corrections. We soften the bands with strategic lifting, neutralise warmth with tone work, and often add balayage placement to blend the result.

How long does a correction appointment take?

Three to six hours for a single sitting. Complex corrections may run longer. Staged plans break that time across two or three visits.

Does colour correction damage hair?

Any lifting service has impact, but with Metal Detox pre-treatment, Olaplex or K18 bond support, staged planning and good home care, correction work can be done gently. Rushed corrections are what damage hair, not careful ones.

How soon can I book after an at-home disaster?

Book a consultation as soon as possible so we can assess the hair. Depending on what has happened, the first correction stage might be a week or two away to give the hair time to rest, or we might be able to start sooner.

What home care do I need between stages?

K18 leave-in mist daily. Sulphate-free shampoo, Kérastase Blond Absolu or Davines Alchemic if the reset is toward blonde, Kérastase Chroma Absolu for brunette. Weekly bonding mask. Heat protection every time. Wash less.
