South Yarra's Dedicated Colour Correction Specialists

Colour correction is not a normal appointment. It is the appointment you make when something has gone badly wrong. A foil service that came out striped rather than dimensional. A blonde that turned yellow or brassy within three weeks. An at-home box dye that stripped the tone out of your mid-lengths and cannot be lifted safely in one session. A balayage from another salon that ended up banded, hot at the roots and muddy on the ends. A rushed ombre that grew in as a visible line across the back of your head.

South Yarra is one of the highest-spend hair markets in Melbourne, and with that spend comes a long history of services that have not landed. Chapel Street is a dense strip of salons, not all of them equal. For every precision specialist on the Hawksburn end, there is a rushed chain booking that has sent someone home with a colour they did not ask for. Kohort Studio, ten to fifteen minutes across the Yarra at 234 Bridge Road Richmond, has built a reputation as the colour correction booking South Yarra clients make when they are done with the roll of the dice.

The Kohort colour correction book runs long. A proper colour correction is a three to six hour appointment, sometimes staged across two or three visits over six to eight weeks. It is the single most demanding service in a salon and it lives or dies on the stylist's eye, patience and technical training. At Kohort the lead on colour correction is Sheree, with over twenty years of industry experience and a book that is mostly regrowth clients who came in for a fix and stayed for the relationship. Billie and Taylah support the colour correction practice when schedules need to flex.

The clients who book colour correction with us from South Yarra tend to share a profile. Finance, law, real estate, fashion, hospitality, media. High disposable income, high standards, strong grooming spend, and a low tolerance for hair that does not photograph well. They know their own colour history in detail. They have been burned before. They arrive with references, screenshots, and a clear read on what went wrong last time. Our job is to listen, diagnose, and plan the sequence that gets them from where they are to where they want to be without frying the integrity of the hair.

What Makes Kohort the Best Place for Colour Correction Near South Yarra

Colour correction is where the co-working model at Kohort matters most. A six-hour appointment in a chain salon is almost never six hours of one stylist's uninterrupted attention. It is a colourist who starts the foils, a junior who shampoos, another colourist who tones because the first one was double-booked, and a blow-dry from whoever is free. The handovers are where the precision dies. Kohort is built the opposite way. Every stylist here runs their own chair, owns their own diary, and manages their own clients start to finish. A colour correction with Sheree is six hours of Sheree, which is the only way the fine detail of a correction actually gets executed.

The second reason Kohort is the right call is time. We book colour corrections at the time the service actually needs, rather than at the time a daily booking target allows. A foil lift followed by a tone and a bond-builder is a multi-hour sequence when done properly. We will quote four, five, six hours where the hair calls for it, and we will sometimes tell you the correction needs to be staged across two or three visits. Hearing that up front is better than hearing it halfway through the appointment when the integrity line has already been crossed.

The third reason is product. Every colour correction at Kohort runs on bond support. L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treats hair with mineral, chlorine or box-dye history. Olaplex and K18 Molecular Repair run through the processing to protect internal bonds. Kérastase Fusio Dose finishes to lock in shine and softness. These are not add-on upsells. They are structural protocols that make the difference between a correction that leaves your hair in better condition than it started and one that leaves the ends frying three months later.

The fourth reason is diagnosis. Sheree's consultation is longer than most salons' full services. She will look at your hair dry, in natural light, read your entire colour history, map the existing tone across the lengths, identify where the damage points are, and sequence the correction backwards from the end goal. A lot of South Yarra clients have sat in chair after chair hearing the same rote plan. At Kohort the plan is built for your specific hair, your specific history and your specific timeline.

The fifth reason is that we will tell you the truth. If your hair cannot safely get to the colour you have screenshotted in one session, we will say so. If the right call is to wait six weeks between visits, we will say so. If the honest answer is that the colour you want requires a shorter cut to remove damaged ends, we will say so. That conversation is uncomfortable in a consult and saves you a lot of grief at week three.

Colour Correction Process and What to Expect

Colour correction at Kohort begins with a dedicated consultation, either booked ahead of the service or included as the first thirty to forty-five minutes of the appointment itself. Your stylist looks at your hair in natural light, runs through your full colour history (including at-home tints, box dyes, henna, hair masks and chlorine or mineral exposure), and diagnoses what has gone wrong.

A strand test may follow if your hair history is uncertain or if significant lift is planned. Strand testing takes thirty minutes and gives us a reliable read on how your hair will actually process before we commit.

The plan is agreed in writing (or at least confirmed verbally before any product is mixed). If the correction needs to be staged, we map the visits, the processes at each visit, and the rest period between them.

Pre-treatment is L'Oréal Metal Detox or a chelating treatment where your hair has box dye, mineral or chlorine history. Without this step, lift is unpredictable and often uneven. Five to ten minutes on, rinse, and we are ready to work.

The correction itself depends on what is being fixed. A banded foil often needs a careful de-band with a diluted lightener, followed by a shadow root and a gloss. Box dye removal runs through a colour remover (Colour B4 or similar) or gentle lift depending on what the dye is. Ombre that has grown in badly is usually softened with mid-length painting and a root smudge. Brassy blonde is toned and glossed with a cool tone. Each is its own sequence.

Bond support runs through the process. Olaplex No.1 and No.2 or K18 Molecular Repair is applied during or after lift to protect internal bonds.

Toning is where the correction either lands or misses. Our colour team tones with the undertone of your finished shade and your skin tone in mind. For South Yarra clients, the target tone usually sits in the cool-to-neutral beige, soft honey or signature blonde range.

Finishing includes a Kérastase Fusio Dose Ritual, a styled blow-dry, realistic rebook timing, and a written home-care plan. You leave with an appointment schedule, product recommendations for the first four to six weeks of aftercare, and a clear picture of what the hair will look like at each stage.

Which Kohort Stylist Does Colour Correction

Sheree leads colour correction at Kohort. Over twenty years of industry experience, a detail-heavy, patient technique, and a strong track record with box-dye removal, foil de-banding, ombre softening and full colour resets. If you have been told by other salons that your hair cannot be fixed, Sheree is the second opinion to book.

Billie brings thirty years of colour experience and an artistic eye. She is the stylist for corrections that need a creative rebuild rather than a straightforward de-band. Warm coppers, soft pastels, fashion-colour corrections, and editorial rebuilds sit in her wheelhouse. Currently welcoming existing clients only.

Taylah handles corrections where the end goal is a high-impact, low-maintenance balayage or signature blonde. If your correction ends in a planned transition to Taylah's signature bright-then-held blonde, she is the logical booking.

For bridal or event-linked corrections (a bride who has discovered her colour does not match her dress two weeks out from the wedding, for example), Sheridan supports the correction team with an additional event-styling lens.

Getting to Kohort from South Yarra

Kohort is at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond, ten to fifteen minutes from South Yarra Station and most of Chapel Street. From the South Yarra end of Chapel Street, head north on Punt Road, cross the Yarra, and turn right onto Bridge Road. Kohort is on the north side between Lord Street and Docker Street. From the Toorak Road and Domain Road pocket, the same Punt Road crossing applies; ten minutes outside peak, closer to fifteen on a Friday afternoon.

If Punt Road is backed up, Chapel Street north to Alexandra Avenue, across the river at Swan Street, and east along Bridge Road is often faster.

Trams are a direct option. The 78 runs the length of Chapel Street from Prahran through South Yarra up to North Richmond. Jump off at the Bridge Road stop, walk three minutes east along Bridge to Kohort. The 8 runs along Toorak Road into the CBD, change at Swanston Street for the 48 or 75 eastbound along Bridge Road.

Trains run through South Yarra Station on the Sandringham, Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines. City-bound to Richmond Station, walk ten minutes east along Bridge Road. East Richmond Station is closer to the salon and sits on the same lines.

For a six-hour colour correction, driving is usually the realistic choice. Metered parking on Bridge Road, Lord Street and Docker Street. Unlimited paid parking at Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre 500 metres east of the salon. Avoid two-hour meters for a full correction.

Colour Correction Pricing at Kohort

Colour correction pricing at Kohort is quoted at consultation rather than from a fixed menu, because no two corrections are the same. As a rough guide, a single-session correction with lift, tone, bond support and blow-dry starts from around $450 and scales with length, density and the complexity of the fix. Box-dye removal, significant foil de-banding or multi-process corrections often run $600 to $900 in a single session or across two to three staged visits.

Included in every correction: consultation time, L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment where needed, Olaplex or K18 bond support through processing, toning, Kérastase Fusio Dose finish and a styled blow-dry.

Mid-correction maintenance and glosses between staged visits are priced separately, typically $120 to $200 depending on tone work and length.

We do not quote colour correction blind. Book a free fifteen-minute in-salon consultation or email salon@kohort.com.au with photos of your current hair, your colour history and the look you are chasing. Sheree or the relevant stylist will come back with a plan, a sequence and a total quote before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My last salon's blonde went brassy in three weeks. Can Kohort fix it?

Yes. Brassy blonde is one of the most common corrections we see. A toning service with a bond-builder can usually neutralise the warmth and extend your colour for another six to eight weeks. If the underlying colour also has placement issues, a fuller correction may be the right call.

How many sessions will my correction need?

It depends on what is being fixed. A tone correction or gloss refresh is one session. Foil de-banding is usually one session. Box-dye removal and lift to a signature blonde is often two to three sessions over six to twelve weeks so we can protect the integrity of the hair. Sheree will map the sequence at consultation.

Will colour correction damage my hair?

Any lightening or dye-removal service has an impact. We mitigate that with L'Oréal Metal Detox pre-treatment, Olaplex or K18 bond support through processing, and a Kérastase Fusio Dose finish. Guests who follow the aftercare plan typically leave with ends in better condition than before the correction, because the underlying colour is healthier and less abrasive on the cuticle.

I used box dye six weeks ago. Can you lift it out?

Usually yes, with a Metal Detox pre-treatment and a gentle lift. Box dye is notorious for leaving metal particles in the hair shaft that cause unpredictable lift. We work slowly, in stages, and protect the hair throughout.

How long is a colour correction appointment?

Three to six hours in the chair for a single-session correction. Staged corrections book shorter sessions (two to four hours) with rest periods of four to eight weeks between visits.

Can you fix a botched balayage from another salon?

Yes. Sheree and Billie are both experienced with balayage rebuilds. If your previous service came out banded, striped, too warm or too ashy, we can usually soften the placement and re-tone within one to two visits. A fresh balayage may also be painted to redistribute the brightness.

Will I leave with the colour I wanted on the first visit?

Sometimes. If the correction is simple (a tone fix, a gloss refresh, a foil de-band) yes. If the correction involves removing a darker colour and lifting to blonde, we may stage the work across two or three visits to protect the hair. We will tell you honestly at consultation which path applies to you.

What bond-building products do you use?

Olaplex and K18 Molecular Repair as standard, with L'Oréal Metal Detox as a pre-treatment where hair history calls for it. All three sit on our retail wall so you can continue the bond work at home.

Can you do a colour correction before a wedding?

Yes, and it is a common South Yarra booking. For a wedding correction, Sheree will plan backwards from the wedding date, leaving at least two weeks between the final correction visit and the day itself so toning can settle. Sheridan can take over for bridal styling on the day.

I am coming from Chapel Street, can I park nearby?

Yes. Metered on-street parking on Bridge Road and side streets, unlimited paid parking at Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre 500 metres east. For a six-hour correction, use Victoria Gardens.
