Melbourne's co-working hair salon on Bridge Road, Richmond. Seven independent specialist stylists, one beautifully spacious studio, and the unhurried appointment you have been looking for.
Welcome to KOHORT Studio
KOHORT Studio is a co-working hair salon at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond VIC 3121, in the creative middle of inner-east Melbourne. We are a collective of seven independent stylists working under one light-filled roof, and we are the evolution of Billie Jean Hair, the Bridge Road institution that built more than 631 five-star reviews and a twenty-year reputation as one of Richmond's most trusted salons. That legacy walked across the street with us when KOHORT opened, and every chair in the studio carries it forward.
If you have landed here searching for a hair salon in Richmond, a balayage specialist in Melbourne, or a stylist who will actually take the time to consult, you are in the right place. KOHORT was built as a direct answer to the chain-salon problem: rushed chairs, apprentice hand-offs, relentless upsells, and colour grids that treat your head like a production line. We do not run our studio that way.
The co-working model is what makes KOHORT different from every other salon in Richmond, Collingwood, Fitzroy or South Yarra. Each stylist owns their own chair, manages their own column, sets their own pricing, and takes your appointment from the first consult to the final blow-dry. When you book with Sheree, you get Sheree. When you book with Taylah, you get Taylah. Start to finish.
We are on Bridge Road for a reason. Richmond rewards specialists. The creatives pouring out of the Cremorne tech precinct, the hospitality crowd walking down from Swan Street, the Victoria Street families, the Collingwood and Abbotsford design studios a few blocks away, the South Yarra set crossing Punt Road for a trusted colourist, the Hawthorn and Kew regulars coming across the Hawthorn Bridge. Richmond rewards craft, and KOHORT was built to return the favour.
Hair Services at KOHORT
We offer a full suite of hair services out of our Richmond studio, with every service led by a specialist rather than passed between chairs. Whether you are booking your first balayage, reversing a colour that has gone wrong at home, stepping into a pixie cut for the first time, or maintaining a long-standing blonde, every service starts with a proper consultation and runs to the pace your hair needs, not the pace a salon manager has booked you at.
Our signature service categories are listed below. Each one links to a dedicated page with pricing guidance, process detail, aftercare notes, and the KOHORT stylists who specialise in that area.
Colour
- Balayage, our most-requested service. Hand-painted, lived-in blonde designed to grow out beautifully over months.
- Lived-In Blonde, the soft, root-smudged, low-maintenance blonde that has dominated inner-Melbourne colour for five years.
- Colour Correction, the slow, technical work of reversing box dye, banded highlights or brassy blonde.
- Hair Colour, our core colour service covering root touch-ups, full-head colour and gloss work.
- Creative Colour, cherry, copper, burgundy, silver, pastel, bleach and tone, money-piece and peekaboo panels.
- Blondes, the category page for everything blonde, from honey balayage to ice-blonde lifts.
Cutting
- Haircuts, our core cutting page covering long hair, lobs, bobs, shags, layers, fringes and men's tailored cutting.
- Pixie & Short Hair, led by Sheree, our senior short-hair specialist. Pixies, bixies, crops and the cuts that live or die on the shape above the ear.
Smoothing & Treatment
- Keratin Smoothing, our Bhave-based keratin system that softens texture, calms frizz and buys you forty minutes a morning.
- Nanoplasty, the gentler, formaldehyde-free smoothing option for clients who want the result without the traditional keratin chemistry.
- Hair Treatment, the full KOHORT treatment menu including Kerastase Fusio Dose, K18 Molecular Repair, Olaplex Bonding and Bond Shaper, L'Oreal Metal Detox and the Kohort Scalp Ritual.
If you are not sure which service you need, the simplest path is to email the salon at salon@kohort.com.au with a photo of your current hair and a note on what you are after. We will match you to the stylist whose specialty fits your brief and reply with a realistic quote range and timing guide. For returning KOHORT clients, you can rebook directly with your stylist through their booking page.
Our Seven Stylists
KOHORT is seven independent stylists, each with their own specialty, their own booking system, and their own voice. Choosing the right stylist for your hair is the single most important decision you make when booking with us. Read each profile below and book with the stylist whose work matches what you want.
Sheree, Pixie, Short Hair and Colour Correction
Twenty-plus years of technical precision. Sheree is the stylist you book for a genuine pixie, a short-bob re-shape, a balayage on short hair, or a colour correction that needs planning across two or three sessions. Her column fills weeks in advance and her regulars rebook before they leave the chair. Book with Sheree.
Zoe, Considered Cut and Colour
Zoe does polished, consultative work across cut and colour, with a strong eye for how colour sits on a finished shape. She is the stylist for clients who want one person to take them from consultation to final blow-dry without a handover. Book with Zoe.
Billie, Editorial Blonde and Creative Balayage
Thirty years in colour, an artistic eye, and a clean editorial sensibility. Billie's balayage photographs well and sits beautifully on day three. Currently welcoming existing clients only. Book with Billie.
Taylah, Creative and Referenced Cutting
Taylah runs Studio by Taylah inside KOHORT. She is comfortable with editorial cuts, creative colour and strongly referenced briefs. If you have an Instagram saved folder full of wolf cuts, curtain bangs or creative colour, she is the stylist to show it to. Book with Taylah.
Sheridan, Bridal, Event and Soft Natural Tones
Sheridan May Hair is KOHORT's bridal and event specialist alongside her everyday colour and cut work. Her signature is the lived-in, soft, natural balayage that looks like six months in summer rather than a salon finish. Book with Sheridan.
Grace, Foundational Colour and Natural Blonde
Grace trained at Biba and Billie Jean Hair and offers accessible pricing on foundational balayage and natural blonde placement. A calm, listening consult style and a good first booking if you are new to KOHORT. Book with Grace.
Elodie, Glass Hair and High-Shine Blonde
Elodie is our glass-hair specialist, the mirror-finish, seamlessly blended blonde you have seen on Instagram. She books through Instagram DM rather than an online booker. Book with Elodie.
Michelle also works from the KOHORT space as part of our extended family. For the full team and broader booking options, visit the Stylists page.
The Retail Shop at KOHORT
The retail wall at KOHORT carries the professional products our stylists actually use in the chair, and we only stock the brands we trust with your hair. That list is deliberate and short.
- Kerastase, our core moisture, shine and blonde-maintenance line. Fusio Dose is the treatment you will smell walking in the door. Blond Absolu is our most-recommended home-care system for lifted hair.
- Davines, the nature-forward, sustainability-focused colour-care range from Italy. Liquid Luster is our pre-blow-wave gloss; NouNou is our heavy-repair weekly mask.
- Olaplex, the original bond-builder. The no.3, no.4 and no.5 home-care system is our default recommendation for anyone in a colour maintenance cycle.
- K18, the peptide-based molecular repair system that travels into the cortex and reverses damage from the inside. The leave-in mist is non-negotiable for blondes.
- L'Oreal Metal Detox, the pre-colour and in-colour system that neutralises the metal particles in Melbourne tap water, protects against breakage, and keeps colour clean.
- Bhave, our keratin and smoothing range. Home-care for anyone coming in for a Bhave Keratin Smoothing service.
Every retail recommendation is made by the stylist who has just spent three hours with your hair. No blanket upsells, no quarterly targets, no pressure. If your stylist suggests a product, it is because they have used it on you in the chair and they have watched how your hair behaved.
Browse the full retail collection or ask your stylist at your next appointment. Professional pricing, professional formulations, and the same shelf we shop off ourselves.
Serving Inner Melbourne
KOHORT's client base pulls from every corner of inner Melbourne. Bridge Road sits at the junction of north, south, east and west inner-city traffic, and our chairs fill from an unusually wide catchment.
We are proud to be the salon of choice for clients from Richmond, Cremorne, Burnley, Abbotsford, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, East Melbourne, Carlton, Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Northcote, Fairfield, Alphington, South Yarra, Prahran, Windsor, Toorak, St Kilda, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn and the Melbourne CBD.
Our Richmond location makes us unusually reachable for a specialist salon. The 48 and 75 trams on Bridge Road plus Richmond Station and East Richmond Station mean a lot of our clients never drive at all.
Why Clients Choose KOHORT Over Other Salons
There are dozens of hair salons in Richmond, Cremorne and the surrounding inner-east. Here is what makes KOHORT the salon our clients actually commit to.
The co-working model. Every KOHORT stylist is an independent practitioner who owns their chair, sets their pricing and answers to their own clients rather than a salon manager chasing daily retail targets. Your appointment is not being squeezed between two other heads. The person who consults is the person who cuts, colours and finishes, start to finish.
Dedicated time. A balayage at KOHORT is genuinely three and a half to four hours of your stylist's undivided attention. A colour correction can be a full day. A pixie is cut dry, standing you up at intervals to check symmetry. We do not double-book and we do not run stylists on a quarter-hour cutting grid.
No apprentice hand-offs. Your stylist does your consultation, your application, your toner, your treatment, your cut and your blow-dry. Nobody else touches your hair.
In-house retail that makes sense. Kerastase, Davines, Olaplex, K18, L'Oreal Metal Detox and Bhave all live on our retail wall at professional pricing. Your stylist uses the same products on your hair that you can take home.
The 631-review legacy. KOHORT is the direct continuation of Billie Jean Hair, a Bridge Road salon that built a five-star reputation across 631+ verified reviews before evolving into the current co-working studio. The bar was set high a long time ago.
The space. Light, calm, spacious, designed as a studio rather than a high-volume salon. No blaring music, no ammonia cloud, no stack of foils on every chair. Natural light, considered fitout, dedicated colour processing areas.
We live here. The stylists live, eat and shop in Richmond, Cremorne, Abbotsford, Collingwood and Burnley. We know the rhythm of the suburb and that local knowledge shapes every consultation.
From the Journal
The KOHORT journal is where our stylists write about their work, new services and the craft of hairdressing as we practise it on Bridge Road. A few pieces worth reading:
- A deep-dive on how to choose between keratin smoothing and nanoplasty for Melbourne humidity.
- The KOHORT take on lived-in blonde and why the Richmond brief is different to the Chapel Street brief.
- Our guide to booking a colour correction and how we stage the work across sessions.
- Product spotlights on K18 Molecular Repair and why we put L'Oreal Metal Detox in front of every blonde service.
Browse the full journal here for stylist features and service deep-dives.
Join the KOHORT Community
KOHORT is also a community of stylists who have chosen to run their businesses inside a co-working studio rather than under a traditional salon owner, and we are actively looking to grow that community with the right people.
If you are an experienced stylist in Melbourne considering the freelance path, KOHORT offers a 50/50 commission-based opportunity with flexible membership options to suit the shape of your week. You get a dedicated chair in a light-filled Bridge Road studio, dedicated colour processing areas, the option to sell your own retail, and a peer group of seven working stylists. You keep your own clients, your own branding, and you build your business alongside like-minded people rather than in isolation.
The KOHORT pitch is simple: the freedom, flexibility and simplicity of freelance life, with none of the loneliness and none of the overheads. Salon owners downsizing, senior stylists ready to step away from the commission grid, stylists returning from parental leave rebuilding a book at their own pace, these are the shapes we are set up for.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is KOHORT Studio?
KOHORT is at 234 Bridge Road, Richmond VIC 3121, on the north side of Bridge Road between Lord Street and Docker Street. We are a ten minute walk from Richmond Station and six minutes from East Richmond Station, and the 48 and 75 trams stop directly outside.
How do I book an appointment at KOHORT?
Each of our seven stylists runs their own calendar. Visit the stylist of your choice, Sheree, Zoe, Billie, Taylah, Sheridan, Grace or Elodie, and use the booking link on their page. If you are unsure which stylist to book with, email salon@kohort.com.au with a photo and a brief and we will match you.
What services does KOHORT offer?
We offer balayage, lived-in blonde, colour correction, full-head colour and root touch-ups, creative colour, blondes, hair cuts across long and short, pixie and crop specialist cutting, keratin smoothing, nanoplasty, and the full KOHORT treatment menu including Kerastase Fusio Dose, K18, Olaplex, L'Oreal Metal Detox and the Kohort Scalp Ritual.
Is there parking near the salon?
Yes. Metered on-street parking runs along Bridge Road, Lord Street and Docker Street. Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre car park is 500 metres east of the salon and is our default recommendation for colour bookings that run more than two hours. Free residential parking is available a block or two off Bridge Road on quieter days.
Which KOHORT stylist should I book with?
It depends on the service. For pixie, short hair and colour correction, book Sheree. For considered everyday cut and colour, book Zoe or Grace. For editorial blonde or creative balayage, book Billie (existing clients). For referenced and creative cutting, book Taylah. For bridal and event or soft natural balayage, book Sheridan. For glass-hair blonde, book Elodie. If you are unsure, email salon@kohort.com.au and we will match you to the right chair.
What is a co-working hair salon?
A co-working salon is a studio where every stylist is an independent business running their own chair. At KOHORT, each stylist owns their column, sets their pricing, manages their own clients and takes the full service from consult to finish. Nobody is handed off to a junior. There are no apprentices finishing your blow-dry. The person who starts the appointment is the person who ends it.
How much does a balayage cost at KOHORT?
Balayage pricing varies by stylist and hair length. As a guide, balayage typically starts from around $300 for shorter hair and $350 to $450 for mid to long hair. A full quote is always given at consultation because we do not price a balayage without seeing the hair. See the Balayage page for the full breakdown.
Does KOHORT do consultations?
Yes. For any first visit, and for colour correction, balayage on previously coloured hair, big blonde transformations, pixie transitions or bridal work, we recommend booking a dedicated fifteen-minute consultation in-salon. This lets your stylist do a strand test if needed, plan the session count, and give you an accurate quote before you commit to chair time.
Do you sell hair products at KOHORT?
Yes. Our retail wall carries Kerastase, Davines, Olaplex, K18, L'Oreal Metal Detox and Bhave, the same professional brands we use in the chair. All products are sold at professional pricing. Browse the full range through our shop or ask your stylist at your next appointment.
What is the KOHORT cancellation policy?
Each stylist runs their own column and sets their own cancellation terms. As a general rule, we ask for at least 24 to 48 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel an appointment, particularly for longer colour bookings. Your stylist's booking confirmation will outline the exact window.
Are you accepting new clients?
Most KOHORT stylists are accepting new clients. Billie is currently welcoming existing clients only. Sheree, Zoe, Taylah, Sheridan, Grace and Elodie are all open to new bookings. For the latest availability, check each stylist's page or email the salon.
Can I work at KOHORT as a stylist?
Yes, we are always open to the right applicants. KOHORT operates a 50/50 commission model with flexible memberships. To apply, visit museavenue.co/s/kohort-vic-richmond or read the full Join KOHORT page for the pitch.
Do you do men's cuts at KOHORT?
Yes. Scissor cuts with skin fades, classic cuts, grey blending for men, and beard trims on request. A men's cut is typically forty-five minutes to an hour. Sheree, Zoe and Taylah all take men's cut bookings.
Is KOHORT wheelchair accessible?
The entry at 234 Bridge Road is at street level. Get in touch before your appointment if there is anything specific we can prepare to make your visit easier.
